help ?? flash 9xr to 9x

Post by josuahj »

Can someone please help me reflash my 9xr to standard th9x operating system , i have the cable but i am yet to find a driver for my windows vista 32 bit. i have companionx downloaded but obviously no driver to talk to my transmitter .. i am bamboozled , its a great radio but its so hard to set up ,and the original 9x was so easy to set up .. why make it harder ,i only have helis and the 9x was so simple to learn , i have been trying to figure out the 9xr for weeks but i am no closer to figuring it out , i just want to flash it to 9x, there must be a way ,i followed a wiki tutorial for flashing the 9x to er9x to try and get it working , but the driver does not seem to be installing ,tried adding usb etc but it just wont find the tx ,. i have the usbasb i think its called i got it from hk when i got the tx. please help me step by step . driver to flash etc .. PLEASE
Josh

By the original 9X do you mean the stock firmware that the 9X came with?

The 9XR comes with a version of er9x. This is actually much better than the original stock firmware of the 9X. Once you understand how er9x is working it is quite easy.

Ask a few more questions relating to what you are trying to achieve with setting up er9x, there's plenty of help available here.

If you got your usbasp recently from HK, they had a bad batch. It concerns the 'new' usbasp that they sell. The easy way to tell is: does your cable have a 6 pin and 10 pin connector at one end , or just the 6 pin at one end? the old one had the 6 and 10 pin at one end. See the comments on the 'old' version for more information.

the bottom line is, if you have one of these new defective units, it isnt going to work unless you have another usbasp or arduino to flash it. Sorta a chicken and an egg syndrome :(

I would still say give er9x one more go. Ask here for specific help. It does have a different approach to setting up models to 'commercial' radios, but that is part of why it is so much more powerful. You aren't the first to have problems, but getting a few questions answered can lead to you understanding what is happening.

Your right about trying to figure it out , I would not be flying Helis if I gave up trying , the stuff I have learnt amazes me . It's all about learning from scratch forums and utube etc ... Is the standard 9xr os different from er9x , does it have the mix menu

The standard 9XR firmware IS er9x. Hobby King just changed a few minor things-

Please reread my earlier post regarding defective usbasp's recently sold by HK. You may have one of them.

There are some drivers here:
http://code.google.com/p/er9x/downloads/list
4th item from the top.
I skipped vista so I don't know if they do work.

yes I'm afraid so. If it's never worked, no amount of trying different drivers is gonna make a difference. Sorry to bear bad news.

Give it a try, you will see that when you start to understand the logic of it, you won't want to go back to the buggy original 9x firmware.. but of course it is up to you ;)
I changed my radio to er9x when I first got it and never looked back ever since. :)

I have one of these HK usbasp with the six pin connector and I had to reprogram it using an arduino 'cause the original firmare was bad. Once reprogrammed worked flawlessly.

get a cable with both plugs on it
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9215

buy an adapter. lots of places sell them
http://www.9xrprogrammer.com/index.php/ ... ng-adapter

Build your own adapter based on the pinouts
http://www.9xrprogrammer.com/index.php/ ... p-hardware

use these jumper wires. lots of places sell them
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11710

use those wires to allow your 'new' usbasp to flash your 'bad' usbasp into working condition. then your good to go

lots of ways to work around the fact that you didnt order a usbasp with the right plug on it.

while your at it be sure you didnt get one with 220 ohm resistor packs .

good luck
