Lost trainer output? After telemetry mod frsky upgrade lite

Hi,


As per title.
Had trainer working on sim on pc. Wired in telemetry module with out frsky upgrade lite to start with and all good.

Finished install with frsky upgrade lite as per this pic...




Basic telemetry seems to be up and running, (haven't looked into it much).
But Trainer is not outputting?
Any suggestions?

i will check my both radios when i get home in a while. But i think mine were working. Will scope them. João

Which firmware? Did you try with PPMsim enabled?

I just tested the radio that is the same that is on the picture.. connected it to the sim and works well.. didn't even enable the PPMSIM thingy.. the only problem is when I trim the plane goes a bit crazy but that is a known issue.. there's a little mod to fix that but I never did it.. So the problem is not the telemetry mod I guess..

This might have nothing to do with it but where did you connect the 5V for the upgrade lite??

Ok, so SVN: er9x-r708, MOD FRSKY NT. Should cover firmware version.

To be honest I dont see PPMsim in the menus? Although I do recall reading about it somewhere a while back... was probably somewhere on here.

5V is taken from the speaker sub board as read it was a better source.

I think r708 is too old to have PPMSIM. Check the bottom of the first page of RADIO SETUP (long left) if there is a "PPMSIM Enable" line. If yes, then turn it on and then go to the first model setup page and set PPMSIM as protocol.

There have been posts about the HK BL jumper mod that if not done may disable the ppm trainer out. I've done the mod but never tested it before only after.
Was the HK BL added at the same time the telemetry mods were?

Ok, so PPMSIM is not there. Ill update to newer firmware.

HK BL (with transistor), done prior to telemetry mods. And was working with trainer.

Will remove power from speaker board and check.

Ok so pulled power off speaker board. Trainer worked straight away. Suggestions on where to put power now would be good?

Updated to latest firmware now see the PPMSIM.

On a side note is using the latest firmware, as opposed to using the stable version a good idea? And if so why? I was expecting stable to mean safe... and latest more for testing?

Im a bit behind on all the ins and outs, mods and changes.

Im using the OEM Flysky unit, DHT wire in telemetry module, frsky upgrade lite, HK backlight with transistor.
Are there common mods that I should/need to be making with this setup?

Ok so looked through links.

All I see regarding the HK BL is the old 1k resistor in PPM line. Is this what is being referd to as HK BL jumper mod? If so then Im not missing anything here

Secondly on the telemetry mod, I had been reading that taking the 5v from the main board was coursing dropouts at startup / blank screen... Hence resson for going to the speaker board for power, or has this been dismissed at this point? (regardless looks like ill have too if I want a trainer..).

No, What was causing that blank screen problem was that people were connecting the frsky upgrade lite reversed.. if you connected it as in the picture you posted on your first post, then it is correct. Connect..

I had no idea that powering something from that regulator would cause problems wikth the PPM. It's good to know that though... But, thinking better, people were cutting it's legs to disable it because when in trainer mod, it would cause glitches on the PPM stream when trimming.. I'll have to look at the schematic to try to understand why..
