Programming Audio in Open9X

Post by jhsa »

I'm having a look at open9x and want to program the audio/voice. The manual seems not to say much (anything) about it.. Maybe I've missed it ;)
So maybe this topic will be of some help to all of us. please feel free to share how you did stuff with the voice feature in open9x.
At the moment I'm trying to get my head around open9x. First question, and very basic. How do you program a voice file to play only once? For example the throttle cut active file..
I know it might be easy, but I just can't find the damn thing.

Probably best to use Companion to play around with the audio functions, in fact Companion plays the audio tracks you have selected... That is another story. :)

To play a file just once with a switch, you select the momentary switch function which is for example mGEA. The page you do that on is the Custom Functions page.. While you are at it.. Keep an eye on the additions being made on this thread ----> New custom function

It is possible to do it with momentary switches in the official release. It will be possible with "-" in the next release, but as you are using an intermediate revision, there is no possibility :)

Flaps, I'm following that thread as well, in fact I just posted in it. ;)
I created this thread here also as a help to all of us using voice..

So, how do I program the voice to tell me that throttle cut is active?
On the other thread Bertrand wrote that i should use the play track function on custom functions. But that didn't work..
Here is the link to the thread so you can have a look

Ok, got it. Thanks Flaps30. Without a manual, you never get there :) The manual is still not helpfull as far as audio/voice is concerned.. I guess we will have to change that.. ;)

Hopefully someone (like you) will do an addition to the manual to improve that situation when the new features are in place. :)

While you are at it.. How about taking some of the vario information I posted a little while ago, plus any other vario related information related to the data transmission method.. :)

Where do you choose the audio file with the model name so the tx speak the model name at startup and when changing models??

True... But also it would break format.

At least now all audio is assigned in the same way... Regardless of function.

Hello,
could we back up a bit for a newbe? I just completed flashing to open9x using my ver. 3 sky board with sd card installed. All my audio worked with ersky9x, however when I go into "custom functions" and try to enter a wav file, I get an error stating that there are "no sounds on sd". What did I miss? screen 2/8 in radio setup shows [voice].
Thanks for any help.

You need the 9XSOUNDS and 9XSOUNDS/SYSTEM directories on your SD with files there. Did you download the zip from companion9x?

I'd like to see a description of how to set up voice with telemetry like battery voltage, timers, RSSI, etc. I'm having some trouble with that and it seems difficult to find much information about setting it up.

Radio battery voltage isn't in the list.
For the others, the principle is simple, in the custom functions select a switch to activate playback, select Play Value, and select the value you want.

I downloaded the files and put them on the sd. Companion directed me to (english-english-sky9x.zip). Still getting the same error.
I'm flashing "open9x for sky9x". running (open9x-r1947). the options available don't show any voice or sound options. Am I to assume that due to the nature of the pcb that those would be automatic? Just wondering. If that is true than I'm still missing something.
What would be my next move.
Thank you again for your patience.

Yes audio is always there on sky9x.

Can you check on the radio, SD card browser (LEFT LONG, right once) that you have a [9XSOUNDS] folder, and if you go inside it that you have a [SYSTEM] folder plus some .wav files?

Got it. Thank you. My path was wrong. I copied the contents of 9xsounds rather than entire 9xsounds folder.
Now l'm off to figuring out how to use it. I can't seem to access the numbered files for use. Only named files. I had my own model names in Ersky9x. Any posted instructions regarding this? Or should i patiently wait for a new release?
Thank you again for your help and patience.

The numbered files in the system folder are system files.

They do not need to be accessed for functions. The software will use them for playing alerts where required.

Only use editable / assignable sounds are those in the 9x sounds folder

Got it again. Thank you. Previously I tricked the fw by editing the numbered voice files in Ersky9x. Hence my confusion. This idea will be easier.
This stuff is great!!

You can download the full audio pack for your radio from the companion 9x preferences screen.

This just needs to be extracted to your sd card.
