Looking to buy a 3D printer
I'm going to buy a 3d printer..It is a crazy market .Trying to figure out what to buy is daunting to say the least ..Do I buy a cr-10 or one of it's variations , a Prusa , a Ender .. I have looked hard for 2 weeks and just can't figure out which one ..I don't mind spending up to 1500.00 , but if a cheaper model will do what I want then why spend the money .. I'm just going to print some rc stuff..such as a stand for my 9xr pro ..cases for Eagletree Gaurdians etc. . Any advice will be appreciated
Thanks
Allen

Re: Looking to buy a 3D printer
Hi Allen,
Kilrah suggestion, I believe is a good option to consider.
Tim at TH3D says the touch-screens restrict firmware features and options.
Tim is selling "LCD Upgrade Kit"
so to be able to get around this problem.
One example: https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/cr-1 ... rsion-kit/
I see the difficulty of trying to choose the best printer for the money.
Because there are so many that look to be similar.
Do they have customer-support and are they made with good quality that you can trust ?
China companies are halfway around the world and when you have a problem
will they stand behind the products.
I find it very difficult getting much help from them (customer-support).
But they have had a good price in the past, but this is changing as our western countries
have been sold out to these slave-countries like China.
In the USA, most companies do a very good job at customer-service
with normal good quality in there products.
Some question to consider when shopping for a 3D Printer.
1) Printing area (how big of a printed parts will you want to be able to print ?).
2) How much money are you able to invest ?
3) How much do I want to invest (time and money) in upgrading the 3D Printer ?
4) Does the vender have good customer-service ?
5) Is the 3D Printer been made with a good proven design ?
6) Is the 3D Printer been made with quality materials ?
7) Are the new 3D Printer models better then the older ones ?
Seeking out youtube video's that give reviews, is one source
to help find what is good and what is not so good.
A lot of new models on the market is making it more difficult to choose.
I have an early CR10 which I have upgraded to get it to be more reliable.
I also, as a hobby, like to do upgrade's improving things.
So my CR10 is really not a CR10 anymore, it more like a hybrid CR10s with all the upgrades.
You can find a list here of most of the improvements I have done: https://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopi ... 29&t=12472
I have been liking the 3D Printing Hobby and hope you will also.
I hope I have been a little helpful.

Re: Looking to buy a 3D printer
I bought a Prusa MK3. It is my first 3d printer and I have chosen a Prusa because of the support. You can reach them most of the time in the support chat and they know their products. I got a replacement for a faulty power supply within two days. My point of view is, that community support is great, but if it comes to warranty, you need good support from your supplyer.
If you get more experienced in printing, you can choose an other maybe cheaper printer, as you already know the basics.

That is exactly why I was leaning towards the Prusa , but Tiny Machines sells the cr10s pro v2 and the sidewinder and they seem to provide great supportLutzB wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 4:13 pm I bought a Prusa MK3. OH MY ....SO CONFUSED
Re: Looking to buy a 3D printer
I bought a Creality CR-10S from '3d-printer-online' on Ebay for £220, it was listed as used but came in an original box and looked brand new. 3D printing is a steep learning curve. I've learnt a lot since owing one.
I've use Octoprint to link the printer to my PC and updated the firmware to Klipper. Oh, and replaced the fans in the control box to quieter ones and got rubber dampers for the stepper motors.

Re: Looking to buy a 3D printer
I started with an under $200 kit. Built it and tweeked it to get good prints. In the process you learn a lot. As it turned out, my cheap machine is adequate for now but I know exactly what I would want in a new machine.

Re: Looking to buy a 3D printer
I'm new to 3D printing and just starting to figure it out. Thanks for this answer. You helped a lot. Now I think I can choose a good 3D printer based on the questions that you have indicated. And I also wonder that you said you have a CR10. Is this your first printer, or did you start with something else? And are there any other printers out there now?bob195558 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 12:13 am Hi Allen,

Hi Allen,
Yes, CR10 is first and I still using.
I have upgraded it a lot.
You also will find a lot of good info here with upgrades to purchase too.
https://www.th3dstudio.com/shop/
There are more china 3D printers to look at.
What size (printing build area) are you looking for ?
