help me program this mix: AILERON mixed to FLAPS

er9x is the best known firmware. It has a superb range of features and is well supported by the community. Well worth trying out.

help me program this mix: AILERON mixed to FLAPS

Post by martin555 »

hello there!

I have a 190 cm wingspan RC plane, OUTER half of the wing is AILERON (of course, moving up-down ) inner half of the wing is FLAPS (this chan physically move JUST to horizontal or to down to vertical, can NOT move above horizontal.. the servos are also mounted a bit forward like the AIL servos)

I found , that the plane is alittle bit "lazy". maybe te AILERON surfaces are too small.

idea is: Can I mix the FLAPS to aileron? (ail also 2 separate channels, flaps also separate 2 channels)

I added a mix to ch 5 and CH8 (flaps) source AIL.

but, the FLAPS are limited in LIMITS , not to travel out of the physical limits of the flaps.

when I add a mix AIL to flaps, the FLAPS are a little "hanging" , goind down, and NOT moving all the way up (to horizontal) and down (like the AILERONS)

what to check here?

-the SEQUENCE of the mix in CH 5 and 8 ? (flaps channels)

I mean, should AIL come first or flaps come first in the mixes sequence?

-change the OFFSET and the LIMITS of the .. ? flaps?

normally, before this mixes, the FLAPS are on ELE switch, steady horizontal in normal flight and all the way down when switch ON.

-and.. where to put "REPLACE" ? I want, at landing, when FLAPS 100% down: NOT TO HAVE ailerons mixed..

dear folks pls help.

Should I share the EEPE file and you will see there? open in eepe and use the simulation?

thxx!!!

I also see the possibility:

SOURCE: CH1...x

"chaining" mixes? wow.. so.. still confused.. how to do this

Why the flaps drop when you add the aileron mixes: The aileron channel has trim included. Set the AIL mixes on your flap channels to not include trim.

You also seem to be using the sub-trim with very large values (offset in limits menu). This is not what it is really for.
For your flaps, I think you would be better off using FULL instead of half, and setting the limits for that. As Gohst says, don't include the aileron trim in the flap mix. You might Also look into why you need -61% trim on ailerons, can you adjust the mechanical linkage to remove this, it is always better if you can.

hello.

my english is poor, I understood gohstb and mikeb-s advice, succesfully removed the trim-s, NOTRIM string appeared THANKS!!

eepe simulating looks BETTER!! flaps move now all the way.

but sorry, I try to translate the second comment, but my english fails pls help meg a little here, explain longer.

this is maybe one fault of mine (in er9x programming). what is offset for? I use it as 'CENTER POINTING" the servos. am I wrong?

what will happen if I change half to full?

what do I use instead of offset, to show the "center" point the "zero" point to the servos?

how do I program that in this mix, when !ELE is active then the FLAPS go down-- but then mixing of AIL to FLAPS "disappears" ?

where do I put replace.. and what is the sequence of mixes in that channel..

thx..

by the way this is the plane:

no flying, just ELE switch on-off (no mix of aileron to flaps)

flying (pilot saysm AILERON-s too "weak", "lazy". (just basic servos used, is it er9x fault or servo problem that aileron un-effective?? servo

HALF - if switch OFF output 0% (centre), if switch ON output +100%
FULL - if switch OFF output -100%, if switch ON output +100%

You can use the OFFSET in the LIMITS MENU to set the servo centre, but if you need more than about 10%, try changing the linkage or move the servo arm.

I suggest:
CH05: +100% FULL switch(!ELE)
CH05: +100% AIL switch(ELE)

Use the LIMITS menu to set the end points for the FLAPS.

When switch ELE is ON (=ELE), Flaps are UP, but the AIL mix is included so will make a flap go down.
When swithe ELE is OFF (=!ELE), Flaps are down, but the AIL mios NOT included.

hell dear people.

I tried programming, FIRST, I removed the Y cable from channel 5 (flaps now 5 & 8)

-here I realised: this plane was ment to be flaps having on SEPARATE channels.

MAYBE because of this was the "extreme" offset and limits on ch 5 before? because Y-cabelling the 2 flaps which are built in in mirror of each other?

if my memory not fails me now, the FLAPS servos are built in.. err.. "mirror symmetrical" to the aeroplanes length axis? if i remember right now

so. the offsets and limits COULD BE REMOVED.

I programmed on the physical plane (eepe simulating "confusing" or maybe wrong?? because ELE switch ON or OFF works in real life (ail mixed, ele switched: AIL NOT MIXED anymore)

now ch5: (left flaps) :

+100% FULL switch (!ele)
+100% AIL switch (ele, WITHOUT "!" ) notrim

ch8 right flaps:

+100% FULL switch (!ele)
- (MINUS) 100% AIL switch (ele, WITHOUT "!" ) notrim

question: is the CH 8 , MINUS 100 weight used there, okay? I could only solve it that way.

ch5 = NORMAL CH 8= NORMAL so nothing inverted here.

hopefully, the plane will fly normally with AIL mixed to flaps where the flaps only follow the down direction movement, not the 100% up-down range movement of the real ailerons. i will let a more experienced pilot fly it first.

The other reason that the roll or turn is 'lazy' could be down to other things like-

Not enough throw/travel of control surfaces. This can be adjusted by using the inner holes on the aileron horn, and/or the outer holes of the servo horn.

Lack of differential on the ailerons, which means there is drag on the down going aileron that works against the roll/turn.

Maybe adding a bit of rudder mixed in with the ailerons could help matters.

I would check the above out and test the model further before heading down the route of adding in the flaps into the equation.

the drag on the aileron that goes down will make the plane yaw on the opposite direction. So, differential is good..

hi.

(yes.. I messed up again, the !ele and "ele" are switched up) -- everything works like a charm thank you everybody. the big " AHA, I GET IT" moment was when I deleted ALL mixes from flaps servos. first added AILERON-- made it to work-- then tried to add the ELE switch mix to the flaps go down.

moderators: case closed thank you do as you want.

p.s. now I just need continuous onboard GLOW to that engine. it suck soo much fuel it blows its own glow plug dead... maybe I will go D size NICD 5.000 mah put on directly.

cheers!

If your onboard glow can be controlled by the receiver you can have it on from idle to say middle stick and then off from there to full.. ;) :) saves battery ;)
