Aliases and location?

Post by ShowMaster »

I was just wondering why we use alliances and keep our general location a secret?
Maybe a first name and a general local would not be a bad thing?
I don't think anyone here is in any kind of a negitive mind set to warrent anonymity?
Knowing a location at least would be of some help if persons needing help we're local and a PM could allow them to get hands on help, maybe at the local field as a meeting place?
In my case I just went along with the norm for a user name but do post my location.
I have left over 9x parts and do solder quite well and may want to help but not knowing a persons location I refrain from offering. I would rather not mail parts ect. but could help local modelers that I may even fly with but will never know?
Posting your general location at least could be a big win if someone wanted to help you. Funny how we post out personal info on face book but not on a RC fourm where we're asking for or giving priceless help?
So, this is ShowMaster in the LA area FYI.

Yeah right!!!
My alias is my first name.
Sort off , it´s a short off it anyway.
I´m born 1969 so that´s it.
The location , i filled that one in when registering.
Thought it would be fun to see where everybody lives.
So no need to keep it a secret.

Best regards , Hasse.

Maybe some oldies like me don't like to spread their personal data on the net.

This forum may not misuse them. But everybody can find these informations.

I'm really willing to help, but my privacy is my privacy.

If I'd have used my real name nobody would know who I am.
Even at work!

Good idea. My location is added (actually didn't know where to enter it before I did a more thorough look at my profile).

I'm still sticking with my secret alias, however!

I think a state, or city is OK at least as many of us have listed.
If I really want to find someone I just bribe a telemarketer and they give all the info I need.
They always seem to know me and my name when I answer the phone?
Aliases are like pins, I'm getting so many I may have to buy a secure program to manage them all.
Thank you everyone that's replied. I'll add my first name to my profile at some secret date just to add some extra mystery.
Glen
