eePe DEB Version Number Reported Incorrectly

Post by Flaps 30 »

Decided that have had enough of being nagged that there was a new version of eePe. So update done and the nagging (which is so Microsoft) continues. In the about panel it shows up as version 380, Ubuntu Software Centre shows eePe as being version 1-1 as does the Synaptic Package Manager.

Not knowing Linux, just where would Ubuntu Software Centre be getting the version number it is reporting?

380 is the SVN revision number.
What is doing the nagging? Eepe should just look for the SVN revision number.

I do not know where the package manager and the software manager it gets the version number from. No doubt that information is buried in the DEB package.

It is eePe that is nagging as it sees that there is an update. The about window on eePe is showing revision 380

Oops - my fault. I fixed a problem in eepskye and released it. As that was the only change, I didn't update the Linux version, but the stamp indicates a newer version available.

I've got some changes to eepe pending, so I'll try to get them out this weekend, that should fix the problem.

No worries Mike. Thanks :)

I take it that this was the reason that eePe in the Synaptic Package Manager reported the version as 1-1

Bit later than planned, but I have now committed a new revision.

Downloaded and installed. Eepe doesn't nag now, which is a step forward. Synaptic Package Manager still reports the version as 1-1 though.

I think I have found how to make the package number match the release number. I'm still finding out how linux works!
I can't test it as when I try to install the .deb I get errors due to missing packages like Avrdude and some of the Qt lib files. The silly thing is eepe runs OK, probably as, at some point, I copied the required files to the eepe directory. I presume the system doesn't know this and thinks they need installing!
The next revision (whenever that is!) should fix the Synaptic report.
