Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
Before I ask my question, let me throw my specs/hardware out there:
Quadcopter
Flight Controller: Naze32 Acro Rev6 running BetaFlight 3.0
Radio/Transmitter: Turnigy 9Xtreme (9X mod from Steven/SmartieParts) with ersky9x9XT_rom Rev 218. (Link)
Radio/Module: FrSky XJT
Receiver: X4R-SB (Link)
Goal: To set up full telemetry using SmartPort. (SBus currently working fine)
What I've done so far:
- This wiring: Link from this forum: Link
- This install: Link
- In the radio: Model Setup / Protocol / External: ON / Proto: PXX and Type: D16
Now, with all that being said....
I'm not getting any Telemetry on my radio. I'm pretty sure I have all the hardware setup right (though I've been wrong before). Do I need to do anything more in the software (radio or BetaFlight) to get the Telemetry to come through? I've ready through the ER9x manual but it doesn't appear to have kept up with all the updates.
I can post some pics of my current software setup in my radio and/or BetaFlight if needed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
The er9x manual was written for er9x. You are using ersky9x which has many more features.
So the manual is quite up to date as far as er9x is concerned
A manual for ersky9x is being written, but it might take a while until is ready.

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
What you have should work, at least as far as the FrSky module as receiver are concerned. You should see RSSI, SWR and RxV values from the receiver.
Is the RSSI value only showing 0?
Please go here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4676#p65894, download "ersky9xProvR219v_music.zip" and extract "ersky9x9XT_rom".
Using eepskye, back up you current EEPROM, then flash this firware to the radio. It includes some options that will help see what is happening.
With this installed, press UP LONG, then RIGHT about 7 times to get to the "DEBUG" display. At the bottom of the display is a line that shows "TelRxCount" followed by two numbers. Is the first of these changing (it counts the number of bytes received on the telemetry connection).
Mike.

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
The more I work on this, the more I think the issue may be that it never flashed properly.
When I'm in eePskye > Preferences > Current Version always reads R1, regardless if I download/update. Is this a factor?
EDIT: eePskye version 419, Jan 8, 2016
EDIT 2: I'm assuming that if it flashed properly it would show a firmware version?
EDIT 3: I verified the version installed from the Version screen. Now on to more trouble shooting (like the steps Mike mentioned).

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
For the moment ignore most of the telemetry, since TelRxCount is not chabnging there is a problem between the XJT and the radio as the XJT always sends, at least, the SWR value.
In the Teleemtry menu, is the value of "FrSky Com Port" 1?

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
So slight off subject, if I need to do a new post I will.
Goal - To figure out/set up the Telemetry so I can see my current battery or average cell voltage.
Telemetry is working great! So far I have figured out that:
RSSI - Signal Strength (I would say obviously, but it wasn't so obvious to me when I first started)
SWR - No idea
RxV - No idea
A1 - No idea
A2 - I have read that this is essentially your battery voltage. Any you need a multiplier to use it. However, no matter what number I put in, it doesn't seem right. I can MAKE it right, but then if the battery voltage changes, it's off again. All the guides I have seen also show a different screen, perhaps its a er9x/ersky9x difference or an older version.

Hope this helps, also see here for more info: (viewtopic.php?f=95&t=7182).MikeB wrote:The RSSI value is what the receiver is reporting. The normal (default) values for this being considered low are 45 for a warning and 42 for critical. With the XJT module it is now SWR, a measure of how well the Tx antenna is functioning.
The best value for this is 0. Above 50 or so indicates an antenna problem.

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
RxV is the receiver voltage. On the second screen you show above, set the Rx Voltage setting to 13.2V. The number on the right of the screen should then be correct for the actual receiver voltage. You need 13.2V set as there is a 4:1 divider on the input, and 13.2 is 4 times the 3.3V used as the voltage reference.
Also, set up a custom telemetry screen to show the value of FasV. This is likely to be the flight pack voltage.

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
To this thread if I may from here:
viewtopic.php?f=126&t=9177&p=118720#p118720
Exact same problem as CobaltEcho
Only difference is he is NAZE based and I am PixHawk 2.4.8 with X8R Rx
I am running 3.3.3 custom from Craft & Theory who I got the Smart Port telemetry cable from (connects X8R to PixHawk)
I now have the following firmware installed:
V.680-Mike
03.09.2016
15:33:06
ersky9x-pr219
9XT
I get a reading on the debugger screen but it looks like it is counting up regardless if I am connected to telemetry or not.
I do get GPS coordinates (even though the Tx says I have no GPS), SWR, RSSI and some bar under the hdop is at 100%.
then, other than Tx battery and RC (crazy symbol) 16
But...nothing else is working.

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
This last screen is assuming you are using an Arduino (in the aircraft) to convert Mavlink telemetry to FrSky telemetry. This includes some special custom values for the screen, including e.g. number of sats for GPS.
I would guess the PixHawk is sending FrSky SPort telemetry without these custom values. Do you have a specification of what the PixHawk actually sends?
Mike.

From what I understand, it is a custom firmware that is needed for the Tx.
Ref attached:
I have the custom 3.3.3 installed on the PixHawk...but from there, I'm lost.
Something tells me I can only have RSSI, SWR and partial GPS

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
The custom C&T firmware is meant to be used along with their custom script on a Taranis and (I believe) nothing else.
The normal pixhawk firmware does send Sport telemetry natively but I don't know what info and if it works...

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
A quick look at that .pdf suggests they are using some (currently unused by FrSky) ID values (starting at 1000) to send data. However, there is nothing in the .pdf to say what data is sent on each ID.
Please ask them for this information, pointing out ersky9x is another open source firmware that runs on the Taranis and other transmitters. I could, probably, work out what is sent where from the script, but they should be able to specify this information much more easily.
Mike.

Understood and message sent - thanks!
Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
They do not document it because it's their "commercial advantage". The script source is not public either, only the modifications to the pixhawk sources are because no choice...
I believe they just pack data in a certain way that allows sending more than one telemetry value per packet then decode that in their script.

Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
So, back to the Naze32 for a moment. I adjusted the values like mentioned above, but the readings are static. A1 is always 4.9-5v and A2 is always 11.1 to 11.3v. Going to play around with some values today to see if I can get it to work.
All I really want is my pack voltage, lol

The naze is probably sending the telemetry using "FasV", not A1 and A2??

You could use the FrSky SP-FLVS - Smart Port Lipo Voltage Sensor: (https://alofthobbies.com/frsky-sp-flvs- ... ensor.html) using S.Port to get your pack voltage.CobaltEcho wrote:So, back to the Naze32 for a moment.

Are you connecting S.Port between your X4R-SB receiver and to your Naze32 flight-controller board ?

Mike B, you have an invitation:
Hi,
Expanding compatibility to more RC controllers would be a nice benefit for the community. Contact us at [email protected] to discuss the open passthrough protocol found in ArduPilot in more detail. Re: Turnigy 9Xtreme, XJT, and Telemetry
It was you I was asking (pmshop).
I can see the SPort data OK, and can, with time, no doubt sort out what it all means.
Where we have some problems is there are several different 'suppliers' of code for flight controllers, and they are then using different ways of sending the flight controller over FrSky telemetry. It would be much better if we had some commonality.
I'll see what I can do.
Mike.
