Let some smoke out

Post by mishadude »

I guess someone had to be the first  Luckily it doesn't seem to be the magic kind. My 9xtreme arrived today (finally!) and at the end of the install I hooked up my lipo correctly. There definitely isn't much room left in the battery compartment with the usb port in the intended place and a 2.65 ah turnigy 1c battery pack.

As I was putting the battery cover back on I think I bridged the battery's xt60 connector with the usb. A little crackle was my first indicator. I opened it back up quickly, took the battery out, and a small waft of smoke was sneaking out from inside the case. I inspected the board and there's no obvious damage, not sure where the smoke came from.

The 9xtreme/transmitter power up just fine, I can connect to eepskye and read the model data that I set up, voice is working great. The only issue I found is when I enter bootloader it shows "no firmware". Any idea what I may have fried, if anything? I will try to bind and fly tomorrow and post results. Thanks for the help.

The "No Firmware" is normal if you haven't copied any firmware files to the SD card.
Perhaps I need to change the message to say "No Firmware Files".

Thanks, hopefully I got lucky. Although it was probably the self extinguishing paint you guys chose. Good plan. Oh, and the speaker/smoke detector module.

A good plan is to open the radio and check all tracks with a magnifier, specially on the back board and also the switch board. Normally there is no smoke without something getting extremely hot..
