HobbyKing now offers 9x mainboards and LCDs as spare parts!

I was surprised to see 9x spare parts at HobbyKing!

Well, at least they list them on their site:
- mainboard
- LCD

Both are on backorder as I write this, though. But there is a chance they will be back sometime...

P.S. These are for the "classical" FlySky / Turnigy 9x, and NOT for the 9XR.

I noticed them, posted about them here: viewtopic.php?f=99&t=6983.
At that time they were in stock!

Note: If you look closely at the mainboard picture you will see it doesn't have the mounting hole between the MENU and EXIT keys. This has been picked up by a recent purchaser of a 9X trying to fit a SmartieParts board and finding the mounting hole missing. We don't know if there are any other changes.

Oh, I didn't notice that message! Sorry!

Wow, there really is no hole between Menu and Exit buttons... Hugh... I wonder if they ordered a totally new batch from somewhere else (not from FlySky)... Or maybe that was a bad batch from FlySky that got quickly sold as spare parts. Anyway, the flaw doesn't seem to be too serious.

The problem I mentioned was on a 9X bought new, so these boards seem to be in actual radios as well. The missing hole makes it difficult to fit the SmartieParts board, which is serious for those who want to use it, it st6ops it being "plug and play".

Ah, so these are the new mainboards in the 9x. Hmmm...
Well then it is an issue for the SmartieParts users... :-(

I hope FlySky at least will not update the 9x case and will not remove the corresponding mounting hole...

The hole could always be drilled, even if only to hold the smartieparts in place? The problem is that the person also said that the screws are different. That is for me the biggest problem, as the screws supplied with the SP board are now different?? :? :o

Managed to order 2 of each. They will stay in reserve, just in case the reversed polarity ghost passes by again.

Ordered two myself too. Project box and a spare radio. Have all the parts but mainboards. Finally. [emoji2]

There is a suggestion that they may have a Mega128 on them instead of a '64.

I noticed that they had stock of the LCD, so bought the last one they had in stock (or I would have bought more) and now have a fully functioning spare Flysky TH9X :D Well chuffed!

They indeed do have an Atmega 128. Just received two of them. I am going to replace them both with the Atmega 2561.

Hmmm... If they have Atmega128 right from the factory, these boards will likely suffer from the horizontal trims issue. So a Ground Fix mod must be done by the user as described in the wiki before using 9x radios with these new boards.

Depends on what other hw changes they made to the design.
Maybe they connected the trims to the right ground. I doubt it though. You never know :)

I thought the error is on the horizontal trim PCB, not anything on the main board.

Ahh ok sorry.. I never did the mod as any of my radios suffer from the problem :)

Looking forward to them coming back in stock. Will be able to fix up two broken transmitters for $20 :)

How broken are they? The boards are actually repairable (in most cases).

Yes, I believe your fix is the best! :)
Thank you!

(BTW there's also a link on the Wiki pointing to your fix. Though, a detailed description with pictures (as it is posted in the forum) would have made that Wiki page even better!)

Guys, please read what Mike wrote here.. The problem is not the mainboard, so, nothing to fix there, right? ;) :)
Also, I have radios with m128 and m2561 and I never had problems with reboots when operating the trims..

There is!!!
It's even worse, if the problem is on the trim boards then people who buy a replacement board with an m128 will likely suffer from the issue if no other changes have been made on the mainboard to correct the problem as their trim boards are still wrong.

And if new 9Xs come with m128s knowing HK I highly doubt they'll have had the insight of revising the trim boards.

But still, the problem is not fixed on the mainboard. It is fixed on the trim board as far as I know. ;)

That's not the issue, the matter here is about warning people that if they had a 9x with m64 that worked perfectly fine and replace their board with the new one they might suffer reboots!

And fixing the trim boards was one possible solution given the 9x mainboard as it was, but there would be ways to fix it on the mainboard as well that could have been incorportated in a redesign.

The issue can be fixed on the motherboard itself (it's more of a workaround though). So FlySky may have done something about it (although I don't think they did).

So as Kilrah suggests, this issue is certainly worth checking, to say the least. And a fix suggested by Bill is just a great (and convenient) way to get things right if one detects the issue.

BTW, João,
I find it strange that you don't see this issue. I saw it on every board with m2561 (I don't have much experience with m128 though, but I read other people reporting these issues with their boards).
So try this: on your m2561 radio, try quickly pushing horizontal trims left-right several times in a row. Try with both trims (the left one and the right one). Normally, about 5-7 (sometimes up to 10) clicks are sufficient to "reboot" the radio, or at least make it "confused" (the screen may switch off for a fraction of a second and then turn back on).

That is the first test I do when I change the chip ;)
But I just did try it again slamming the horizontal trims in every direction and as fast as I could and about 20 or 30 times in both directions, alone and both together.. Nothing. No rebooting, no screen switching off as far as I could see. I have never seen that problem in any of my radios. I have currently one with m128 (next conversion to m2561 when I have time) and another with a m2561. Previously had an m128. Never had such an issue with any of them.

For the '128 chip, it is worth knowing whether the chip is actually a 128 or a 128A, and whether reboots happen. The '128A is a lower current (about half) version of the '128.

It would be interesting to find out why it happens with some radios and not with otters :o
What is different?
