Taranis does not alert if Lipo Voltage Sensor disconnects

Post by Thorvald »

Just found a new one while testing the low voltage issue with the Smart.Port lipo sensor.

If you unplug battery from the Lipo Voltage sensor, the Taranis does not notice this at all. The Cell voltages still show 3.2v each even though the entire sensor is disconnected.

When you connect it again, it then gives refreshes the levels and will sound any alerts you had setup (low voltage etc).

I have confirmed the problem also exists with the non-smart port sensor connected to the Sensor Hub v2.

Also confirmed with the following versions of firmware:

2834
2921

Regards
Tim

There is no disconnection detection for any sensor. The value that is used and displayed is the last that is received. There is a notification if the whole telemetry feed is lost as that is probably due to the RF link, but a sensor being physically disconnected is not really very likely to happen.

So a RF link loss is more likely to happen? Worrying :D because sensors do get disconnected. Ask me how I know it ;)

Yep. I was more concerned if the balance plug somehow came loose from the voltage sensor as the actual sensor gets powered from the balance plug and not the SmartPort data line which is unfortunate.

So if the leads vibrate off etc, the sensor dies and the radio still show the last recorded voltage... Hence you think it's still connected and all ok.

We need to find a way to determine if the lipo sensor goes offline or not retain the last value read, that way if the cell voltage goes to 0, we can alarm it.

Cheers

IMO voltage shouldn't retain the last value. Only min and max.
