X12-S scary self reset

Post by Aldo68 »

Dear all
I'm new in this forum while I'm using the open-tx since 5/6 years.
I'm here 'cause after such time where no problem or whatsoever happened to my Taranis first and X12-S,
yesterday I experienced something really wired.
Basically I turned off the radio at field days back on my "normal" set (models and config) when yesterday suddently
when turned on it boot with NO models and config, as it happen when just flashed with OTX.

The OTX has been update couple of weeks ago to latest (2.3.9) and XJT module flashed in same occasion
to latest release to solve the servos "glitching" problem discovered while ago.
As you may know I update all my receivers firmware too.
I'm running international version software.

Question 1
does anyone ever happen this?
Question 2
if this happen at field what if I do not have with me a laptop to restore the system via Companion?
Seems to me (not sure) that you can not (different than Taranis series) thru/whit radio backup

Any helps/clarification are more than welcome !

THANX

Aldo

This would be because of an SD card problem, either bad contact or card corrupted. Remove/reinsert hopefully clears the bad contact.

THANX Kilrah for explanation.
Again a question still in my mind: does exist any way to restore on field the Hours X systems without Companion? (...just in case)
Apologise if I miss an available procedure eventually.

No, not on the radio itself.

You don't need companion though, any device holding a copy of your SD card contents and that supports external USB storage would work... that would include most android phones with an OTG cable.

Or just have a 2nd SD card with a duplicate of the contents?

Kilrah if my understanding is correct (in relation to your answer), the radio does not hold personal settings and models, in any place but
the SD card. Is this correct?
Again THANX for support and sorry for hassle.

Hello again
May useful info.
Today (by case) I discovered how the personal Radio setting and models can get lost in a flashing time on field.
When it happens before I did not realise what happen. Today the problem appear again under nose.
Basically i connect the radio to another radio (Hitec) in master-slave mode where my radio was set as master.
The two radios (at first instance) works fine while passing control back and forth thru my SC switch.
After a while a get message from my radio relevant SD card missing or error.
On quick check thru System menu i discover that my card was not found.
By rebooting without master slave cable connected everything went ok with my SD. Again on new cable connection the problem re-appear.
This glitching SD problem happen for four times only when the master-slave cable was connected.
After the fourth time I lost my personal and model setting definitively.
At that point NO way to restore my radio thru my card (even without cable).
Ive been forced to restore via Companion or should I have on field a spare SD backup.

few consideration (cold)
- what can create problem to SD by plugging the mini-jack?
- once my system was reset to default (by plugging' cable) my SD was back and working fine: why no chances to restore everything at that point ?
- where in the SD are written my personal configs?
- why once the radio has been reset i can see my models (*.bin files) into SD, but not from radio itself to reloaded (eventually) ??

Any feed back are more than welcome

The radio never resets anything until you press a key to do so on the "Storage error" warning. If you don't want to reset then do not press a key, power off and fix whatever's causing the issue so that the error doesn't appear.

Regarding the trainer cable either there's something wrong with the cable wiring or the X12S has a hardware defect.

Thanx Kilrah

There was not any key to press to confirm. I think was just a kind of "status declaration" if you like. The message was "glitching" popping up and down..
The "instant" message appear when recall the output window to verify the inputs from student radio.
Thanx again

I have seen many SD card problems with unbranded cards <16gb

I always replace them with genuine sandisk 16gb cards.
