There are two different radios, the old one is called the 9XR and the newest one is called the 9XR-Pro.
Which one do you have ?
The 9XR comes with er9x firmware and the 9XR-Pro comes with erSky9x firmware.

Er9x on 9x radio, with Smartieparts Programmer and TelemetrEZ Board.
ErSky9x on Taranis, Sky9x, 9Xtreme radios.

There aren't a few options there are only 2. Er9x and OpenTX.
I personally like and use Er9x. Another couple reasons I would recommend it are that it is still being developed, it supports the multiprotocol module and it supports more hardware changes in case you want to do it.. I also like the menus better..
But my advice is that you try both and decide which is best for you.
