Arduino Due add on to 9X

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
Thanks Brent.. It doesn't really match the 9x hole location as far as I can see..
Wouldn't it be a good idea if it did? I remember that Mike wanted to locate it on the back board. Whether it stays there or on top of the main board it would be nice to have an easy (and good looking/professional) way of holding it in place..

No I'm good. I always buy a spare, never part with my last one. I even found 2 9x's in pieces o was asked to fix a year ago and then the guy disappeared out of the USA? Never answered my emails so after a year there're mine.andrewju wrote:Do you want your battery cover back?ShowMaster wrote:Fortunately I saved one 9x case and a new set of sticks.

To answer Joao's question, I have at least one working backboard and a spare main board I think.
I'll have to look at the stockpile of hobby stuff later tonight when I get home.
I'm sure I'll see a few 9x TXs on the swap tables in any case if I need one.
A treasure hunt for those of us that can solder.
Just when I thought Brent had gone on to other projects, here he is, back sucking us in for another fun ride.

Brent, I have an idea:SkyNorth wrote:Maybe the 2 bottom holes ....cant make the board too wide..
Make the bottom part of the board a bit wider so that it aligns with the mounting holes in the 9x. And on the extra space you could place a 5v reg that will reduce the load on the 3.3v reg and also allow for +5v supply to the BL / Haptic / Aux outputs...

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
Maybe we could slot two bottom holes out to the sides and them we could glue plastic tubing standoffs to the bottom of the board like we do with the SmartieParts boards.SkyNorth wrote:Maybe the 2 bottom holes ....cant make the board too wide..

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
Could and/or do we use the 5V regulator on the main 9x board ?andrewju wrote:Brent, I have an idea:

And/or will there be a need to do the 5V regulator upgrade mod to the 9x board ?

The stock 5v regulator on the mainboard is already near its limit. I don't think we can use it for much more than the stock Atmega.bob195558 wrote:Could and/or do we use the 5V regulator on the main 9x board ?

There is another 5v regulator on the switch board. I think we could use this one.
But we won't have to do it if we will be good guys and Santa will bring us another miracle!

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
I think many of this VRs on the switch board have been fallen victim to a speaker mod etc.
In my case I did cut the switch bord to mount a rotary decoder in the hole for the neck strap holder ...
But I think it's no problem to mount an appropriate VR somewhere else.

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
I have installed hall sensors on one of my 9x's radios gimbals.. The stock regulator was not powerful enough to power it all, so I replaced it with a big 1,5A low dropout reg. soldered to a piece of stripboard and hotglued to the main board..

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
And if there will be a 5v reg on the Sky CORE board - you could take 5v directly from that board, rather than having to upgrade the stock VR on the 9x mainboard.
Ok, ok, I'm shutting up now...

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
If there was a 5V reg on the board it would be another step towards it being used as the mainboard of a radio itself Which would be a bad thing. Compatible LCD and you build your own radio with that tiny board plus a shield or two

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
Here you go, There is a spot to add a 5V regulator by the user if needed.

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
I rather use a 5V switching regulator such as 5V UBEC or a buck DC-DC converter which wastes less power than a linear voltage regulator.

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
You can get 5V DC-DC regulators with the same pinout as a TO220 linear regulator that are about the same size as well. Brent did offer some as an upgrade for the V3 SKY board. I have one working on my SKY board.

Digikey has a nice small 5V / 500mA DC-DC converter in a to220

Put me down on the list for two please.
The simpleton asked "Hows about ErSky9X for Horus???". And the Genius from Dorset replied "Why not indeed? I shall get right onto it!" And then there was light on Horus! And it was good!

Hello to all,
this is my first Post here.
First of all, I want to thank Mike and Brent for their good work.
Please could you put me down on the list for two boards?
Thank you

Crazy Idea, really crazy
Is there any 128x64 touch screen that could be used instead of a normal screen?

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
There's probably a touch screen film that you could use with an existing LCD. But given the size of the screen in a 9x, I doubt it will be convenient to use such...
Support for a touchscreen input in general may be a good option - for example for those planning to use this board in a custom shell with a custom screen.

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
I think it could work.. That's why there are touch screens that small.. Some mobile phones are probably the same size

Re: Arduino Due add on to 9X
Yes, there's a cheap, er9x compatible 128x64 LCD module with a resistive touch panel.
Only catch is the screen size is just 1.8"
http://www.buydisplay.com/default/1-8-i ... t-7-colors
I considered to put this LCD on my vintage radio but I was not very convinced by its usefulness.

So, it is a bit too small then.. I do like the RGB backlight though.
I'm sure there might be one with the right size somewhere
