ERSKY9X on Taranis

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

Re: ERSKY9X on Taranis (DJT PPM Telemetry Cable)

Post by bob195558 »

Hi Mike,

:D Yes the new test version is showing telemetry now with the DJT external module. :D Good Work Thank You ! :D

I did notice the in the test versions of erSky-x9d in the Telemetry menu the TSSI is missing for selection for when using DJT external module.
When I first power up the Taranis the telemetry screen had two RSSI's with same readings.
And in the test version of eePSkye, dose have the TSSI selection and after trying the Taranis Radio, ON/OFF several times the Telemetry display looks to be correct using TSSI. Just no selection for it in the Telemetry menu. :D

ERSKY9X on Taranis, Telemetry Cable with external DJT module using PPM protocol
from com2 port: (viewtopic.php?f=96&t=4393&start=60#p79427).

Thank You Again!

Confirm Telemetry working with internal XJT transmitter.
Is the SWR a replacement for the X series telemetry system ?

Yes, the XJT doesn't send the Tx SSI, instead it sends a SWR (Standing Wave Reflection) value when operating in PXX, D16 mode. I'm just fixing the display when in D8 mode to show TSSI again.

Hi Mike,

There was no SWR value shown.

I tried the External XJT module and set it to PXX and I had NO Telemetry. :o
Because I had bind the D8R-II plus Receiver in PXX (with NO Telemetry), I change it to PPM (with the XJT module)
and now it dose have Telemetry working. :D
This seems to show that there is a need to use PPM with the XJT transmitters.

Next using the external XJT Transmitter module to the X8R Receiver to see the S.Port telemetry.
Setting: move dip switches to ON (up) on the XJT Module, plug in external telemetry wire cable from COM port 2, Set Radio Protocol External to: ON and Proto to: PXX and Type to: D16.
Bind to X8R receiver and the results are: NO S.Port telemetry. :o
Do I have the settings correctly set ?
See eeprom model:

Was there something that COM port 2 dose not do S.Port, but COM port 1 dose through pin 5 of the module connection pins ?

I just test the following combinations and they all worked, although the odd one didn't set the telemetry running until I powered off then on again. I'll look into that further.
Internal XJT D16 mod to X8R.
Internal XJT D8 mode to D8R-II
External XJT D8 mode to D8R-II
External DJT with telemetry routed to pin 5, bind to D8R-II
All of these use COM 1.

External DJT standard to D8R-II, telemetry plugged into serial in battery bay
This uses COM 2

Hi Mike,

When using the external XJT module with the X8R for the S.port telemetry.
I found I made an error when reading FrSky paper manual for the XJT module, with setting the DipSwitches.
I was using, with both dipswitches to be ON (up) which is for without S.Port working.
I needed to have dipswitch #2 OFF (down) or with both dipswitches #1, #2 OFF (down) for the S.Port to work.
FrSky may have an error also in there paper manual for the XJT module, in that they show using D8 setting
with the X8R Receiver and it will not work in D8 setting when using PXX setting.
It will only works using D16 setting when using PXX setting.

The SWR is working now too.

The XJT module to the X8R receiver works using com1 for the S.Port telemetry (PXX,D16, com1).
The XJT module to the D8R-II receiver works using com2 with external wire cable (PPM, D8, com2).
The DJT module to the D8R-II receiver works using com2 with external wire cable (PPM, D8, com2).

None of my external Transmitter Modules have any modifications done to them,
they are all stock transmitter modules.

When the radio sends a PXX signal the DIP switches and key are ignored except for the "Sport disable" setting, D8/D16 selection, bind/range check are done through the radio. Just leave both DIPs off.

"The XJT module to the D8R-II receiver works using com2 with external wire cable (PPM, D8, com2)"
This is using the XJT as a DJT really.
Leave both switches off (down), use PXX/D8 and COM1 to connect to the D8R-II.

Confirm, XJT module to D8R-II receiver works using both Dipswitches OFF/com1/PXX/D8.

Taranis (erSky9x-x9d) telemetry using external transmitter modules
XJT module to X8R receiver/S.Port telemetry works with both DipSW OFF/com1/PXX/D16.
XJT module to D8R-II receiver/telemetry works with both DipSW OFF/com1/PXX/D8.
XJT module to D8R-II receiver/telemetry works with DipSW 1 ON & 2 OFF/com2 external cable/ PPM/D8.
DJT module to D8R-II receiver works with both DipSW OFF/com2 external cable/PPM/D8.

HI,
I could use some advice to how should I use full length Flaps.
With the Multi-Mixing, I have the Ailerons working with the Flaps mixing.
Should I have this action, or is it improper to fly this way ? :?:

Hi,
I have been trying to create a Mix with Slow Up/Down.
Have when switch SG^ to be normal Twin Rudders action,
switch SG- to Slow Down/Up movement into Rudder Air Brakes.
Studying and trying the examples in the new er9x manual also with other multi-mix
combinations have had no working Slow Up/Down multi-mixes.
Failed Mix with Slow Up/Down settings.
Failed Mix with Slow Up/Down settings.
Right RUD: CH04 +100% RUD
[tab=30]+90% RUD Switch (SG-) Offset -90%)
[tab=30]+90% RUD Switch (SG-) Offset -90%) Slow (u4 :d4)
Left RUD: CH05 +100% RUD
[tab=30]+90% RUD Switch (SG-) Offset (90%)
I have tried using Replace and wrote the Multi-Mixing to CH14 and did not work.
I was only able to get Slow Up/Down setting to work with Radio stick controls
and not able to work when using a switch.
I may have had some setting incorrectly set, but I think I have covered them all.

If it were possible to have Source SG- in CH04/CH05 could this work?

You probably want a souce of FULL to add a fixed offset.
Something like:
+45%FULL Offset(45%) Switch(SG-) Slow(U4:d4)

I'm seeing a problem on the version of eepskye I'm using where switches are not being recognised. THis may be due to some recent changes I haven't posted yet. switch SF does seem to work though.

I'll look into this over the weekend.

Hi Mike,
Thank you, that's it, I needed to split the 90% and use FULL. :D
Mix with Twin-Rudders/Air-Brakes with Delay/Slow Up/Down
Mix with Twin-Rudders/Air-Brakes with Delay/Slow Up/Down
There seem to be a bug between test V.1296/erx9d-r215, erSky9x-x9d and eePSkye.
In eePSkye I used settings Full (-45%FULL Switch(SG-) Offset(-45%) Slow (U4:d4))
and then flashed to Taranis Radio/erSky9x-x9d it changes to HALF.
FULL or HALF seem to work OK.

Re: ERSKY9X on Taranis

I can believe that. I'm trying to make the EEPROM values for ersky9x compatible between SKY board, 9XR-PRO and Taranis. Because the Taranis has one more pot (slider in fact) it causes problems with the mix source values. The new X9E (tray system) actually has even more pots, so I have some changes to handle them that I've put into ersky9x, but they haven't made it into eepskye.
I'll spend some time this weekend trying to get it all sorted.

Re: ERSKY9X on Taranis

Post by MikeB »

I've posted a test version of eepskye. This seems to fix the mix source problem for the Taranis, but not yet the Taranis Plus.
This is because the Plus has yet another analog input (P3).

Explanation:
Internally, each mix source is coded as a number:
Sticks 1-4
Pot P1 5
Pot P2 6
Pot P3(SKY)/Slider left(Taranis) 7
HALF 8
FULL 9
etc.
If the Slider right of the Taranis followed in sequence (8), it upsets everything following compared to the SKY EEPROM values. I've therefore made Slider right and "Extra pot" with a special code of 120, which is well past any normal value. The additional pot on the Plus is coded as 121.

To make things look sensible to the user however, SR and P3 are made to appear in the selection sequence between SL and HALF.
This means that eepskye needs to know which Tx is is handling. Easy between SKY and Taranis, I need to check regarding the Plus though.

Hi Mike,
May have found another bug between ersky9x (test erx9d-r215 V.1296 03-18-2015) and eepskye (test 410 03-28-2015).
In the erSky9x index menu "Voice" at VAxx line: VA15 / Source: A2 and in eepskye: A1 is viewed.
And in the erSky9x index menu "Voice" at VAxx line: VA16 / Source: RSSI and in eepskye: A2 is viewed.
No hurry, I am programing voice sounds in erSky9x and then checking how it look in eepskye.
See eeprom model SkySurfer:
eePSkye Voice Test 03312015.zip

 Could it be possible in eePe/eePSkye to copy and paste part the a Setup tab page (like VA02 line)
to another eeprom model Setup tab page ? :?:
 Also could there be an SD card folder with the Voice files to eePSkye allowing to play the Voice sounds
on the computer ? :?:
These are not a high wish also.

Now, this is a cool idea. Adding to that it would be cool if the telemetry could be received over serial and used/be viewed by eepe/eepskye. I know it already can be viewed but I was thinking about something in the same line as on the radio.. That'd be cool also..

Thank you Dave and João,

I made some new voice sounds and placed two of them in the SD/voice/user folder of my Taranis
and went looking for them.
They are not showing up in the Name/Voice File.
I shorten their file name to 8 characters and still they are not showing up.

They are TSSI Sig, 93 KB wav. and RSSI Sig and 87 KB wav.
What may I have wrong with them ? :?:

Bob, the space also counts as a character.. That means they have 9, not 8, well at least one of them :)

Funny that when I open your files in media player I only hear one file, but if I open them in Audacity there are clearly 2 mono files in just one file :o

Please try these..
