9XR Pro power supply - where to get one?

Post by nwr1cxo »

The 9XR Pro has a power supply input under the rubber flap on the bottom of it. It's in the same spot that the headphone jack, mini SD Micro slot and USB cable connect. I want to buy one but can't find one anywhere. I asked 2 different product specialists via the HK chat but neither of them could find one.

Is a power supply been manufactured? Where do you get one of these?

Sorry if this has been answered before.

That's the battery charge input. It is only connected to the battery if the radio is OFF, so is NOT an external power supply input.

The battery charge signal is protected by a diode and a 0.315A fuse and is only suitable for charging NiMh batteries.

9XR Pro power supply - where to get one?

Post by Daedalus66 »

This is exactly the opposite of Taranis, which has an internal charger and requires 12v input from a power supply (NOT a charger).

The 9XR Pro requires input from a charger such as a typical "wall wart" type used by Futaba (not JR or Spektrum which have reverse polarity), but only if it has NiMH battery. It's too bad the flap is labeled misleadingly.

Note that the fuse is not capable of supporting fast charging.

If you use LiFe or LiPo the battery should be removed for charging. Be sure to use a charger appropriate to the chemistry.

The Fuse on later model Pros should be 2Amp now. The silk screen will show " F2A L 250V " on that version.

2A?? :o Hmmm :? Not sure if that is good..

That fuse is only for the charger circuit, right?

Better than 300mA though, if the battery is 2000mAh, it takes far too long to charge in the radio.

That is true. But I hope we don't start seeing Lipos burning out in the radios when people start charging them at higher currents without a balance plug connected...

It's just a bad feeling..

As said it's only to be used to charge NiMHs, not LiPos.

Yeah? Well the seller unfortunately recommends a lipo. Even the power connector matches the 3 cell balance plug.. while it is nice to be able to use a used pack at the field if your radio battery is too low, it can be dangerous to charge a lipo using only the charge port and using higher currents.
Just might 2 cents

I see lots of people talking online about charging through the 12V port.

No one seems to be talking about running the 9XR off a static 12V supply e.g. on the bench or with a base station.

Can anyone confirm it works to feed 12V into the lipo connector circuit, either with a JST plug or by cabling an additional barrel connector to the lipo solder points?

Yes , you could feed 12V through the Battery connector to power the radio.

Don't reverse the polarity or puuffff.. ;)

Just saying. It wouldn't be the first time that happened. :)
