New OpenTX 2.0.x with Sky9Xboard : CoPr ?

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

New OpenTX 2.0.x with Sky9Xboard : CoPr ?

Post by Orphee »

Hello,

I have currently the opentx-r2940 FW with CoPr: 6 and EEPR : 215 (hopefully I made a backup)

I tried to update to OpenTX 2.0.3 it works well, exept CoPr is : ---

It seems I can't flash CoPr with TinyApp and USB... Do I have to do it again with ASP port on motherboard ?

Thank you.

Ersky9x now includes "maintenance mode" that allows you to update both the bootloader and the co-processor from files on the SD card.
OpenTx have chosen not to implement this mode.
I'm not sure why you can't flash the co-processor from SAM-BA.
If, however, you had a report from r2940 that the co-processor is at version 6, it should still be there. Flashing the main firmware shouldn't alter the co-processor contents.

Hello,

When I flash the latest FW version, CoPr is ---.

When I restore my FW backup & my save & model backup, CoPr is at 6.

Another thing, with my r2940, USB storage is working when my radio is ON and I plug the USB.

On the new 2.0.x USB storage isn't working. Only usb flash when radio is OFF.

Edit :
Another question : I just bought the FrSky Taranis Rev B. I plan to transfer my model save/configuration from my sky9x board to the Taranis, is it dangerous for model settings ? can c9x handle the migration ?

You have to enter in bootloader mode with the trims at startup! The Bootloader is Mike's one on sky9x board

To access the USB storage you need to power on with both horizontal trims held towards the centre. This enters the bootloader. Then plug the USB cable in.

Your processor should be ok. But I guess OpenTX 2.0 has a regression on this. I have one, I will check tonight.

Guys, sorry to bring back this old topic, but I need some help, since I'm pretty much in the same boat as this user.
As you can read from here (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11945&p=144762#p144762), I have been away from the hobby for several years, and I'm trying to come back and would like to update my 9x radios, one with a stock board, and the other one with a sky9x v3 board. João has been trying to help.
My question in this topic is regarding the sky9x board. Mine has (as you can see in the picture in the topic I linked) a very old opentx version (r2688) and displays CoPr: 6 and EEPR: 215. Already tried to hold the horizontal trims toward the center when powering the radio to go in to bootloader, but nothing happens. The radio just boots to the installed firmware. How can I flash the latest firmware and how do I access bootloader mode?

I didn't get the first bootloader working (erskyTx) until Jan 2014, so openTx was later. You won't have a bootloader in your version.
You will have to install SAM-BA on your PC and use that to flash a file with a bootloader in it.
I think it very unlikely you will be able to keep your existing models.
If you flashed the radio before, you will have had SAM-BA installed, do you still have.use the same PC as you did then?

Thank Mike.
I still have the same pc, but I will have to start from scratch since the machine has already been formated. I will give it a try during the weekend and give feedback.

I have installed ErskyTX (and bootloader) in my sky9x v3 board. I'm running version r221 of ErskyTX, but I would like to try OpenTX.
I already installed companion 2.2.3 and and downloaded the latest OpenTX firmware, but when I try to write it to the radio, a get an error and nothing happens.
Can someone help me, or point me, on how to flash OpenTX and install/update the bootloader coming from the latest stable ErskyTX.

What error are you getting when you try to write?
Have you tried putting the firmware on the SD card (in the firmware directory) and writing it from the bootloader?

Thanks Mike. When I try to flash OpenTX using companion, the progress bar starts and shortly after a message pops up informing it was not possible to flash the firmware and mentions "unknown error".
Is it possible to flash OpenTX from the SD Card using ErskyTX?
There's no compatibility issues?

Yes, both the openTx bootloader and the erskyTx bootloader will flash either from the SD card.
Note that the SKY board has "only" 256k bytes of flash memory. Check carefully that the openTx file you are trying to flash is smaller than this size. With erskyTx I have to build a special "small" version that has a limited number of languages included so it fits.

Thanks Mike. Will try flashing from SD Card. How do I know the OpenTX file size I'm trying to flash? Is it like checking a file/folder size on the PC with right click and selecting properties?

Exactly, it is a binary image file so the file size is the flash space needed.

Thanks Mike. Just to give some feedback. I tried, as you said, and was able to flash openTX from the SD card, but could not flash openTX bootloader. But that's ok, after a few minutes with openTX I went back to erskyTX. I prefer the menus layout in erskyTX.
Great job Mike
