EEProm
EEProm
Ok guys, I was pointed in this direction by Aloft Hobbies after a couple forums could not help, numerous viewing of Scott's Youtube videos did not help.. and reviewing most of the issues/fixes on these forums and others...
This is a new Taranis and X8R for my F550...
Calibrated and setup basic functions of the Taranis and I have downloaded installed Companion9X. Verified that the Zaidig utility installed the STM32 Bootloader and it shows in the computer device manager.
Connected the USB to a powered down Taranis and I flashed the latest and greatest OpenTX to the radio with success.
Powered the Taranis up and then reconnected the USB after a minute or so. Device manager now shows "Frysky Taranis Mass Storage" under USB devices.
I crank up the Companion9X, set preferences for openTX for FrSky Taranis and Mode 2.
Click Read EEPROM from TX to download my calibrated setup........
"Impossible to identify the radio on your system, please verify the eeprom disk is connected."
Tried 3 different known good cables with the same result.
What did I miss?
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit w/ SP1 on a Dell i7 -2600 with 16GB memory
Thanks in advance for your assistance

Re: EEProm
Do you see a disk drive for the firmware?

Slope Soaring, FPV, and pretty much anything 'high tech'
...........if you think it should be in the wiki.. ask me for wiki access, then go add it!

Re: EEProm
No disk drive listed on the disk drive listing of the computer. I do hear the USB device load into windows and I see the "Frysky Taranis Mass Storage" device listing come up under USB devices in the device manager... I have made sure to turn radio on and let set for a few before jacking into the USB port. Flashing to the Radio is not an issue using the bootloader.
I will be trying my Alienware at home tonight to see if another computer will fix the issue.

Re: EEProm
Make sure the radio is on the home screen, not on a warning.
Re: EEProm
No warnings... all warnings cleared...Kilrah wrote:Make sure the radio is on the home screen, not on a warning.
Re: EEProm
You might want to right click on "my computer", manage, manage disks. If you find 2 disks with some partition on but no assigned letter, assign one manually.
Maybe something's screwed up on your computer and it doesn't mount the drives.

Re: EEProm
Negative... Disk Management shows existing Hard Drives and CD/DVD Roms... Device Manager indicates FrSky Taranis Mass Storage is active and drivers up to date. I rolled back the drivers... no luck... allowed windows to search for updated drivers and it installed current driver.. claims device is working properly.Kilrah wrote:You might want to right click on "my computer", manage, manage disks. Re: EEProm
There is no more driver nor operation needed than for a standard usb key, so... no idea
Re: EEProm
btw.. every time I plug in the USB cable into the radio, the USB icon lights up on the main menu indicating the radio is connected via USB.
Re: EEProm
Thanks for all the input guys... it would appear to be machine specific. Moved all of my gear to my Alienware and everything works as advertised. Successfully dropped my calibrated eeprom to my computer. So much for buying a Dell, ehh?

Does the Dell have USB 3 ports?

Re: EEProm
I have this issue but F: and G: drives are presenting in explorer. Whats the diagnosis?
Also, I don't understand what the eeprom term means if we are dealing with virtual drives.

Re: EEProm
Is this that Companion doesn't read your EEPROM?
The EEPROM is mapped to a file on a virtual drive.
Can you read the drives from explorer? In particular, what files are in the directory of the G: drive?

Re: EEProm
Hi Mike
I can read the contents of both drives (F and G) with explorer. They contain the same file, Taranis.bin. Companion doesn't upload eeproms it just errors "impossible to identify the radio...".
It would seem there is a file or files missing, however the radio appears fine.
Thanks for replying. This really has me a bit stumped.

Re: EEProm
TARANIS.BIN is what's supposed to be there, but it should only be in one of the drives, the second being the SD card. Unless you copied it into the SD card, of course.
