Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB

er9x is the best known firmware. It has a superb range of features and is well supported by the community. Well worth trying out.

Hey guys, will any of you be willing to make a video or post pictures of how the voice mod is done for us non-electronic guys to follow? How much does this mod cost?

Yes if you can do some soldering. :)
You will need to solder some wires to the LCD vias, power and Gnd.

take a look at SmartieParts Board…
its an easier way to be able to modify your radio and add firmware on it (i.e. ER9X)
then it will expose some cleaner pins for you to solder on as well.

I already have er9x on my radio, one question, why do we need the backlight wires?

Hi volumax,
I will do everything I can to help you out here… its my way of giving back to the community. ;-)
Lets start with what have you done to your radio?
The assumption is you have a T9X, not a 9XR and you have done some modification to it as you have ER9x on it?
Can you explain what you have done to the radio thus far?
This would be a good basis for where we are at and what needs to be done.

Thanks.

The backlight will now be controlled by the voice board. Pin 17 is now needed for something else.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate your initiative to help me, I have a T9X, I have only added an HK backlight and soldered ribbon cable to flash with er9x. Last night I bought the speaker because I want to see if it will actually fit with my 2x5 header being up under the little Turnigy rectangle, I didnt want to pop a hole on the bottom like many do. I now have to replace my gimbals since my aileron pot almost made me crash last weekend but since I dont have a esky9x board I havent pulled the trigger on aurora gimbals, also waiting for news from Alofthobbies, I was told by them that today they would be adding the taranis gimbals to their site, might get those as replacement.

Hello volumax, this is good news.. you have soldered before and successfully mod'd your radio to update the firmware on it.
That means that you can successfully install the MegaSound9x board.
I would go ahead and order it if you haven't already done so and if I am not mistake, it comes with the 8ohms speaker and all the wiring? Nonetheless, you have ribbon cable and a speaker already from the sounds of it.
When you get that Sound Board, follow the instructions on the website, they are very clear. If you should have any questions while doing so, stop, ask and then continue. You can ping me directly via PM and we can do a chat session to step thru it. I assure you that you have done the hardest work already. Track down a dremel tool of sorts so you can expose some jacks/leads outside the case for easy access.

Just think, we had to build the boards ourselves first before our Hungarian Friend (http://www.rc-miskolc.emiter.hu) was suppling them to the masses.

Hey guys,

just in case someone has the same problems:

Last night I finished the implementation of the megasound 9x and had an issue with flashing the board.
I used the method with USBASP and the files in AVR.ZIP from the megasound homepage.

To make it work I had to exchange the signatures of Atmega328P and Atmega328 in the avrdude.conf!

Would like to emphasize (for the umpteenth time) that anyone who uses my sound card, you do not need to upload the FW!
The cards are programmed up (with the lates FW)!
This many people misunderstand.

Yes, and it includes a bootloader so the application update may be done over the serial connection.

I just was aware of that fact, but I couldn't establish a working serial connection. Don't know why.
After flashing the FW ev'rything went OK.

So when I use the sound card, my backlight will now work with er9x? As in, will it turn off after 10 seconds if I set it to that?

Thanks, I pretty much have the idea of everything I have to do except the backlight, I have already the backlight installed directly, how do I do it through the sound card so I can get it working with er9x?

The MegaSound board includes the driver transistor and current limiting resistor. All you need to do is connect the backlight to BL+ and BL-.
