Where to find parts? Refactoring your entire transmitter, new cases? Sticks etc..

Art-Tech - EFLY9D Gimbals Fit

Post by Rob Thomson »

So...

Today I was looking at my NEVER USED. Art Tech EFLY-9D transmitter.

http://www.art-tech.com/english/Article ... icleID=269

Well.. it was never used ever so I ripped out the gimbals and test fitted them in the 9x.

To start with. The holes are a 100% match. They are drilled exactly in the same place, and everything pretty much slots together.

The only issue.. the existing screws 9X are too short to reach the lugs!

So...

I found some M3 bolts that where long enough. Spent an hour or two soldering. And then some more because the pots are reverse to the colours on the existing wires!!

And here is the result:

A perfect fit - and some very good quality ball raced gimbals.

You can see in the close-up the chrome hex bolts I used.

The TX feels very different. MUCH BETTER!

One question though.. Are the pots also 60 degree pots like in the 9x? Did you measure them? If not the radio might have less resolution, right?

Lol.... I did not measure them.

But I can tell you they work perfectly without the GAIN enabled.

- When using the debug screen - I can accurately move the stick in 1 step increments from 0->100.
- I have also tested some models and they all move and fly exactly as expected.

So happy all round :-)

Wow! That is the best use of a cheap $170 radio I have seen in a long time.. Thanks Rob. Shame that I cannot find one anywhere going for less than that price.

I suppose if the Efly was doing nothing and no chance of selling it for a reasonable sum. Then I can understand it, as building a high end er9x with all the bits costs virtually the same if not more than the Efly.

Silly thing... I bought the Efly for £100ish when looking at doing the openACT port. Once the project died... the radio just sat.

Now.. I have allot of radios - and have no chance of using it, so at least have made good use of it.

Guess the point being. If a broken one comes up online - then it will work :-)

Probably would not hurt for someone to ask Art-Tech if they sell them?

I agree... I now have three transmitters (not including a Spektrum DX6i gathering dust) now.. One is my normal one. One is the hot spare (without voice at present) and another that is untouched (secondhand) to be used as spares. So I do get what you are doing.. Some of my club members look at me in an odd way at why anyone would want three transmitters of the same type.

So now we have the Aurora sticks that will work with a bit of work needed and this one.. I seem to recall someone suggesting that DX7 sticks will work.. Maybe a database might be an idea for this type of thing.

Currrently the only ones are:

EFLY9D (pretty much direct swap no work needed)
AURORA (needs spacer plate and grinding)
DX7
Slope Soaring, FPV, and pretty much anything 'high tech'

Indeed, i confirm the Gimball from my Wrecked Dx7 fit perfectly the diameter, you only need to adapt the drill Holes ( Or hot glue the whole thing )
the sensation and the precision are far away from stock shitty ones
Normaly plenty of gimball should fit... the big deal is to get the precise diameter of the RX case, ( and the gimball to match it )

I think that FrSky will sell spare gimbals as well. I do like them a lot!

Does number of posts in 9x forum count as discount points?

It would be nice if we could buy those gimbals as people say that they are a direct replacement for the original 9x ones..
