Re: Custom Spray
Star Wars is exactly why I did white. It totally looks like it's from the Empire. As I've said before.. next one is Hot Pink for my bride.
I used "appliance epoxy" in a rattle can. It went on really nice -- but it not very resistant to scratches.

I find acrylic auto paint - perfect! Just give a layer or two of 'clear' on top!Scott Page wrote:Star Wars is exactly why I did white. It totally looks like it's from the Empire. As I've said before.. next one is Hot Pink for my bride.

Yes.preston91 wrote:very nice Rob!

I found on my latest to get a good finish:
1. 2 coats primer - acrylic auto primer
2. 5-6 coats of the color you want - lay it up thin and slowly - also acryclic auto paint
3. 2-3 coats of 'clear' acrylic to seal it off
All bar the last coat of color and clear are lightly sanded to get things smooth and glossy!

Re: Custom Spray
Hi all,
I try the custom spray mod on my dx4e. This is my first spray experiment
The finish of my dx4e is good, but some parts are ribbed and the color from background shines a little bit through!
Do i have to sand these parts or the hole case?
Regards
Kayle

Re: Custom Spray
Couple of questions:
(1) Has anyone located a tool to undo the nuts on the switches?
(2) It seems to be a slow process (including rubbing down which I loath doing) doing all of this. Has anyone tried Vinyl Dye. I gather that this is far better and hard wearing when compared to standard paint processes. -----> http://www.vinyldye.co.uk/
Any comments or experience of this product?

Re: Custom Spray
Between coats you sand -- with what grit? Do you use wet paper? I have one more TX to spray, and I want this one to be superior. Have not chosen a color yet.
I was not pleased with the metallic purple on my wife's TX. I'd go ahead and add several more coats of clear with sanding each one -- but she's happy with it as it is and I'm tired of fighting with the metallic paint. Maybe if we were till dating ...

Re: Custom Spray
I use the finest wet and dry I can buy. But only used 'dry'.
If not happy with the finish.. simply use a heavier grit and sand all the way to the plastic again!
Also. For bet effect use WD40 to remove all the stickers and labels! That is essential. Put them back on with double sided tape as that does not react with the paint on the stickers!

Custom Spray
Nice. Glad to see the respray idea getting a following!
I am thinking of using a colour shift paint on one!
So it changes colour dependant on the angle you look at it!

I have that another front cover (as Rob knows) which I'm going to paint with my (pen) air brush. This one I did just with the spray cans. Planning of the color scheme is on progress...

Re: Custom Spray
Finally got back to finishing the transmitter for my wife. In addition to the spray -- it has smartieparts board with USB mounted in charge port -- stronger springs for gimbals, bright LED backlight, replaced power plug with Futaba polarized plug, LiPo battery (3 cell).
Custom Spray
Nice work, got a source for the springs you used?
Re: Custom Spray
I like the carbon Fiber trim. How did you manage that? Is it a sticker. I just ordered a 9x from HK. I am thinking a ferrari edition. Red with CF!
Re: Custom Spray
@ GTpilot.
Welcome to the friendly 9Xforums.com
Red with cf , hmm might give it a try since i was thinking of red anyway...
This is what i used , enough for two transmitters.

Re: Custom Spray
Hi Hasse. Sorry for the delay in getting back to the forum. I joined and then lost the sign in info. Typical me... sorry. I ordered the cf stuff. I FINALLY received my Turnigy 9x. I also have a Spektrum DX8, but the telemetry receivers/ modules get expensive. So I figured I'd order a 9x and install FrSky. I'm pretty impressed so far. It's not bad at all. I had a Futaba T8FG Super, and this thing feels waaay better in the hands han it did. I like the feel of this radio. I haven't started modding anything, so I'll be reading up quite a bit this week to figure out how to load the new firmware, etc..
I'm from beautiful Rockford, IL USA. Little Sweden as some call it. I'm Norweigen and Polish so I enjoy telling good Swedish jokes amongst my swedish friends out here. And they love the Polish jokes in return. Our city has a hospital called "Swedish American Hospital" that I work with as a Firefighter/ Paramedic. We even have a restaraunt that's called the "Stockholm Inn"... known for their Swedish Pancakes. I go there frequently. I Love lingonberries. So, what an honor it is to talk to a "Real" Swede. Tanks for the info!

I finally got a vacation so am catching up on things....like 9x forums.
http://www.radiosouthrc.com/closeup.asp ... 8&offset=0 The springs are not cheap, but ... well.. I really like them.
Re: Custom Spray
Wow, you can have every conceivable RF module built in there and put 6 antenna on top of it. that is a new idea.
I guess you fly with some kind of board and strap around your neck/waist.
