openX9D

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

Right. Open9x will be renamed to openTx after the release is out. It could be tonight or tomorrow, depending on the last tests ... Jhsa, I wait for your - home work - feedback on the vario ;)

And before anyone says anything....

The forum name change to a similar one was surprisingly decided independently of this news.

I found out when Bertrand told me (at the minute the change was made)

But all up... It is a good thing :-P

To augment the conspiracy...
An intrigue was secretly plotted on google talk with an italian spy.
Which revealed the industrial secret to a french guy... but MI6 was acting already on his own...

Now.. A name for companion.

How about:

companionTX

Or

OpenTxConfigurator

Or

OpenTX manager

?

Hy,

how far away are we with a good running software revision for the 9XD = Taranis ?

And the Spezial Funtions for setup intern Transmitter Funktions?

What about usb upload to transmitter with companion9x

What I see:
At 5. - 7. April Expo at Toledo Spain, selling will start .

Think about 130-150$

What about Voice, Audio files, SD-Card, selection intern, extern Moduls and so on X8T X8R L9R

I still like "companion"

"COMPANION" is a friend who help you when you need..

so my proposal is only "Companion"

Progress is good, but there's still a fair amount of work to implement the protocols for which we only received the specifications a couple of days ago. Voice, SD, USB are already working.

As far as I know in Toledo the radio will be presented and demonstrated, but not available for sale yet.

+1 On that..

I don't see the need to call it CompanionTx unless you want to relate it directly to what was/is Open9x at present.

I am fine with that.

Most of us tend to just refer to it as companion. So a simple change?

You could do a poll to get feedback?

Of course, the name of companion9x could just be changed to 'Bob', I don't think that's being used in the computer industry anymore... ;)

But I did vote for 'OpenTx Manager' in the poll. Succinct yet very descriptive and lends itself to using either '.otx' or 'otm' for a filetype that makes sense when browsing a directory (assuming you plan to get away from using the current '.epee').

James

PS- I wish we could have helped select the name of the FRSky radio by doing a similar poll. "Taranus"?? Anyone see that one coming??? Oh, well... :? Hopefully they'll start taking pre-orders after the Toledo show!

Taranus, Taranis, Bob... what's the difference?? Anyone see that one coming at all?

James

PS- wasn't the Emperor's Sith name Darth Taranis in the Star Wars series?

Taranis is the celtic God of Thunder....
Horus (the other radio) is the Egyptian God "the distant one" or "one who is above, over"

I would say 'Open X' sounds better to my ear than 'OpenTX'. and can be abbreviated to 'OX'. while C9X to 'Open X manager' and can be abbreviated to 'OX manager'. :)

Not a good idea.

X is a very non specific term - and easily confused with non rc/gpl products. like X windows!

Rob
+1 to what Rob said about being "easily confused with non rc/gpl products. like X windows!"

'OpenXrc' however might be workable, as would 'OpenXrc Manager'.

James

PS- while I've made sport of griefing FRSky for naming the X9D 'Taranis', I'll stipulate to the fact that they could have REALLY screwed the pooch on the name and 'Taranis' isn't really a bad name (though I doubt ANYONE saw that name coming!).

But as far as Open9x goes, after reading the discussion on changing the name, I don't personally see a reason that it NEEDS to be changed at all!

Keeping it named 'Open9X' keeps it rooted to is origins, and that's going to become valuable as time goes on. 'Open9X' embodies a philosophy, at least in my mind, that transcends the platform it'll be used on and it certainly should be proudly displayed in the splash screen on start-up for any radio that is flashed with the firmware. Regardless of any name changes, I was planning to modify my splash screen to include in some manner a statement such as "The firmware formerly known as Open9X".

Working on it.. Have to get out of linux and log into windows to compile the fw..
Also have a permission problem with avrdude in ubuntu.. I'm still not very good at linux I guess.. took me a couple of hours to find out how to search for a file :D
It looks really good but sometimes is a PITA to work with.. I guess it was made for developers.. not for mortals.. ;)

I get on with it well and have done so since I dumped Microsnot stuff as my main operating sytem. So if a mere woman can use it. I'm sure you can. :)
