Just wanted to make a public thanks to Ockert and Wheelspinner20 who have been digging in to the WIKI.

It is taking shape!

Take a look for example at this page

http://openrcforums.com/wiki/index.php/Nutshell

This is exactly the sort of content that we need to help noobs get their heads round what it is we are doing.

Give it another month or so and I think we should have a comprehensive wiki up and running!

Hi Rob,

can you create a dummy starting page for the NMEA hard- and software modifications, that I can fill with the content?

Thanks Rob, now that I played a little it should go quicker. This weekend, I want to go through the sound option menu and put those options in order.... Can you advise how it should be organized?? I mean subtopic of existing, or its own number description below the normal menu or what??

Pat

I found it useful to just create a link as you see fit and just get all the content in there. Sometimes you don't really know where it belongs until you've done the whole section (and you get ideas about additional content along the way). On some of the sections Rob and I did we moved the link-ups around to fit better, and I am sure we will do so going forward.

Pages can quickly get too complicated and we will restructure some of it I am sure. But if the content is there, it is quick and easy.

If it is disassembled, its always better to understand! I keep telling myself that.

I agree.

At the moment there is no real planned structure.

General consensus of wiki systems is that they work best when you don't plan it too much!

So just logon, dig in, and have a play!

I have started this guide

http://openrcforums.com/wiki/index.php/Flashing_your_9x

Could do with someone tackling the 'how to actually flash it bit?

Right...

Noticed a few people being interested in adding guides to the wiki... but not knowing where to start!

Start here!

http://openrcforums.com/wiki/index.php/ ... her_Guides

If you view the source to this page you will see how a new guide can be added.

Simply add a new guide to the page as follows:

* [[The name of my guide is!!!!]]

Once you have added the link to the page... click on the link... and then start to edit the page!

Hi Rob,
I started there, but I don't know where I landed. :?

Can you add a link to the 'Using a GPS mouse to get GPS data onto your TX display‎' section that I have transferred to the Wiki?
I don't know how to create a link to it, probably in the hardware mods section.

As I did not find the description of how to format the data for the Wiki, there will be some work left.

Important question:
How do I insert pictures ??

They are all missing up to now.

Re: Wiki...

Pics are not that hard to insert ..... it is getting them to layout where you want that I could not get sorted....

Click the link on the left of page "Upload File"

then once you install it you have to click the button embed file.... and add the file name to it.

something like [[File:filename.jpg]]

Cheers

Lol...

I spend allot of time doing unix sysadmin. I would say I am reasonably good at it.

However... without google things would take me allot longer to solve!

Succeeded to upload picture files and added the link according the the 'embedded files' button.

Only one single file out of 33 files is shown in the document.

And I'm still missing how to get my pages linked into the others.

I'm near to giving up and deleting the whole stuff

Found the link...

You are mostly right :-)

How big (file size) are the images you are trying to upload?

Email it all to me and will do a 'cleanup'

Thanks Rob,

the pictures should be there, anywhere.

When I click on 'My Contributions' all the images that I uploaded are there on the list and I can display them, when I click on them.
A zip file with all pictures is just around 800KB.
No problem to send it, but really I would like to know, what my problem is.

One little failure that I just discovered, one file has a typo, it should be named writesucceed.jpg instead of writesecced.jpg

Please confirm if you need me to resend the pictures (they really should be there already).
(just some filenames. They are all .jpg:'Date & Time' , Date & Timer', 'Speed & Course', 'APC200', GM-210', ....)

Just saw, that the link is already active.
Thanks.

I think I know what my problem was. I first uploaded the pictures and then tried to link them into the text.

I probably should have entered the [[file:imagename]] and then done the upload ??

Thanks to your tip, I found my problem.
It was just that I was using mixed characters and didn' take care of it, when I enterd the names by hand.

I now got all pictures linked and displayed.

The NMEA How To guide should be ready now (to be found under the hardware mods)

Yeah, just to point out something.

We shouldn't link to the 'new' wiki pages yet. I noticed someone has for the BL mod. and it just makes a mess for people who now start going through all the other pages that are not complete. It takes them off the google pages for er9x that are at least complete with content to all the links. (It's not complete either, the bl page, formatting isn't right in some spots, and a link or two isn't right)

Just saying, that wasn't the smoothest link transition. makes it look totally unprofessional, I know you're all excited, but to link to an incomplete wiki pages site.. just isn't cool.

My 2cents, that is all.
8-)

I don't fix what I don't understand what the author was trying to do. *the BL mod that was there was fine for now too*
