Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB

er9x is the best known firmware. It has a superb range of features and is well supported by the community. Well worth trying out.

Don't know, but the MP3, two-line, keypress modules also all use the same chip but behave differently, so...

These were my observations with the microsd version:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=948&start=210#p13673

There's that 1sec delay before the BUSY line gets released that would mess things up.

as I suspected. the modules are programmable. I've got a response from emartee webstore :D

but now I have to sell the information. please donate to anyone in need (some people have real finance problems. and I'm not greedy :P )

so here it goes:

Dear sir

It is possible, but it is very difficult , you need to get download the main control chipset and then you use one software to remove the orignal mode code in this chipset, and then burn another new mode boot code through the software , and you must take care of it , because this process may damage the chipset .

Thanks very much
Best Regards

not the solution yet but we could get somewhere :D

Change speaker and joy before with an 8 ohm was getting just a scratch sound I put higher impedance one from a discarded computer headphone got it working.
But now got an issue when playing the voice the display is showing several black horizontal black bar across the display! During my previous test I was getting theses bar or no display at all when did not applied power to the board so I suspect a bad IC Is anybody got an idea?

I have a 2Gb SD card can that be an issue, must it be 1gb?

and How can I confirm if I have the Seriel Line Emartie board? Its in the pics above

the backlight can be turned on and off by the software when connected to the same board where the sound module connects.. normally if it works is a sign that the board is working.. also check your settings on the general settings menu.. Please go to the wiki>Audio Mod, there is a guide on how to setup the audio.. make sure you check those settings
Also, when you odered your sound module, did you tell them that you wanted the one with Two-line serial control mode??

I did request the two-line seriel mode, but I dont know if they did send it.

I have now tested with a volt meter accross the two backlight pins and it does send 5v when the light should switch on!
So that indicates that my circuit board is working?

So that leads me to the emartie board. Or my SD card. I have tried with a 2Gb micro in an adapter and a 8GB.. I dont have any under 1gb. Is that required?

I take it that you have the backlight connected to the little board then and controlled by a switch with the er9x firmware. If so, then the board might be working. Did you check the settings as in the link I posted before?
make sure the SD Card is formatted in FAT (FAT16).

I remember that when I first turned my Audio mod on, I also had no sound. It turned out to be the radio's settings.
Another question, do you own an oscilloscope? you could scope the pins that go to the module for signals..

You can also check if your module plays files manually by grounding P07 and P02. They are accessible on the module`s connector.

Does this mean we are scuppered for changing these modules to another option http://www.diytrade.com/china/pd/450210 ... P_OTP.html It states they are one time programmable voice chip. Is that a programme it and thats it or is it a programme it and you have to re-programme to change it.

Came across this PDF that is bigger than others I have found, is there any useful stuff in it.

Its working! I used mhotars idea to test the module, this allowed me to make sure its reading the SD card properly. During my troubleshooting I desoldered the module from my board about 5 times and eventually damaged the tracks on the module. I repaired them incorectly, the tracks run under the printing and I missed it. After correcting that it all worked, I dont know what the original problem was.. I didnt change any other circuitry..

Thanks for the help. You guys must now stop coming up with cool mods, im going to blow my radio soon!

Having an issue..
For teletry data for example, when I choose A1 sound to be played or Time.
It only says Volts, or Seconds. It does not read the numbers before? Is this a programming problem or is this what a non-seriel line module could do?

If i play rssi data then it does read out the numbers

What method are you using to get the voice played for A1? (there are several different ways!).
Do you have a value displayed for A1 (configured the ratio for it)?

What sound files are you using? it sounds like you don't have the "number files" where they sould be. Please try these ones. just copy all the sound files to your sound module's SD Card.. Backup yours first of course ;)

I have Firmware er9x-r776 installed

I have my main flight battery on A2 - Telemetry ratio displays voltage correctly.
I have just used the method in the guide, testing on TRN Switch
- SAFETY SWITCHES - VS 14 TRN Varibl A2=

I also get some sounds start playing for .5 seconds then stops.. All normal sounds I assign to switches work fine. like gear up gear down etc.

I have the Sounds as posted above too.
I did save some other language packs in folders for future access. Can this interfere?
In my troubleshooting I also found an old 256mb SD card in an old GPS which I am using. It just show 88X speed,

Batt also just says out "Volts" I assume this should read the Transmitter battery? whether telemetry is up or not

I think this puts the question of this module to bed once and for all http://letsmakerobots.com/node/33537 copied the relevant bit below.

There is also a clone of this called the WTV020-SD-16P. Both of the modules use the same decoder chip. The chip has different "modes" that are programmed one time only, usually when purchased, and it cannot be changed. Most people will want to control the module with a microcontroller. In this case you need one programmed in "serial mode." There is also "MP3 mode," "loop mode," and two "key modes," None will communicate in the two-wire serial protocol. This is important to note upon purchase.

So what we really need is a suitable Atmel chip programmed to talk to a SD card using SPI, and output PWM voice. It should be able to handle the same two-wire input.
This way we won't be relying on purchasing a specific module.
16 kHz sampling, 8-bit unsigned needs a PWM clock of only 4.096 MHz, so this is possible.
Much of the work might even be already done, see http://elm-chan.org/works/sd20p/report.html.
Anyone interested/able to do something like this?
I don't have enough time myself at present.

Only because it uses an 8-bit parallel input, just needs a bit of tweaking to take 2-wire serial then we should have 512 files OK. We don't need the PWM speed of that processor, the design is trying to handle up to 44100Hz stereo samples I believe, 8-bit, 16kHz seems fine to me.

I have been working with Emartee for them to make the WTV020SD-20S Music Sound Chip available for the DIYer. It is now available.
