9XR PRO protocol with XJT and R-XSR (S-BUS)

Post by cu19x »

Dear all,
I am using 9XR PRO in several of my models.
Recently I made a new quad with a R-XSR receiver and a XJT module (as my old DJT couldn't be paired).
In the time that I waited the module to arrive, I borrowed a Taranis QX7 from a friend, where I successfully bind it in D16 mode. The bind and the setup in betaflight was perfect, as everything was working, including the telemetry also.
Today XJT module arrived and I begun the setup. Whether I am running the stock firmware (on my TX) or the most recent er9x, the only way that I can see TX signals inside Betaflight, is through PPM protocol. As my knowledge in these stuff is small, I think that PPM protocol is slower that S-BUS, so I would prefer to have a better solution than PPM.

Did you use the XJT module in the QX7 or did you use the internal module of the QX7?

The internal on QX7. I was expecting the module to arrive at that time

Is the QX7 FCC (international) or EU?
Is the XJT FCC (international) or EU?

I believe that both of them are EU. How can I confirm?

How are you binding tha XJT and the R-XSR?
Set the protocol to XJT, then select the BIND option and choose channels and telemetry, then select "BIND".
Power on the X8R with the FS button pressed. the red LED on the Rx should flash when the bind completes.

No mater which protocol I choose, the binding process is done correctly (the lights on the receiver and on the module are correct). When I am activating PPM protocol, I can see real inputs in betaflight (in real time). When I activate PXX protocol, the lights on the receiver and on the module are still correct, I cannot see real inputs in betaflight (in real time).

With that said, I can bind and fly through PPM protocol. My worries is if the PPM protocol which I am choosing in my TX is limiting the speed of connection, compared with SBUS

If the lights on the Tx module and the receiver are correct (normal operation Rx LED showing green), then it shouldn't matter whether you are using PPM in the Tx or PXX as far as getting control signals out from the receiver.

To be clear, the radio uses either PPM or PXX to communicate to the module. The receiver uses either PPM signals (1 for each channel) or SBUS to communicate to the flight controller. PXX and SBUS are different signals.

Ahaa. Actually I have connected my receiver with FC through F.Port.
So from what I've understood, the Sbus fast communication (compared with PPM) is not for TX-RX communication, but RX-FC communication. Is that so?
If this is correct, it wouldn't play any role, the choice of the protocol on my TX, as long as I have obtain a connection (bind). Correct?

On the aircraft side no, but if you use PPM between radio and module that will still be slower than using PXX.
