Post by saijem »

Hello I'm saijem from Malaga, many years ago i bought one skyboard to skynorth, is Sky 9x rev. B . I have been during this time out of the hobby but last week I decidedI decided to update the radio but by not remembering well how it was done perhaps I had a mistake an the radio don't work . The board is bricked . I have been reading in the foro and I have a doc but is for 9xr pro . Perhaps mine is not similar and I cant fix it. My board is this one

That image looks like the Rev 3 board, the earlier REV B board still has a place for a RN-42 bluetooth module on the left. Which board do you actually have?
I assume a normal power on results in no response.

Have you tried power on holding the two horizontal trims towards the centre (bootloader mode)?

With power off, if you plug in the USB to a computer do you get a device appearing on the computer? Depending on the board revision, you may need to power on the radio after connecting the USB.

Did you really do this at the same time you turned the radio ON?

Are you using the stock display that came with the 9X radio? If so, please confirm it is connected to the socket closest to the edge of the board.

When plugging in the USB (then powering on) please confirm the PC does not report a USB device has been connected, whether the display shows anything or not.

Hello the screen that I have is the original one and it is connected in its corresponding place, this radio has been working well until this happened
When I connect the radio to the PC nothing comes out on the screen, whether I connect it on or connect it off, before USB came out but since this happened it has stopped and the pc does not recognize that something new has been connected.

Near the top left of the board is a connector (J25), labelled "5V Regulator AUX. output" on the picture in the first post.
With the radio powered on, please (carefully) measure and see if you have 5V between the two pins of J25.
If that is OK, check the connector near the bottom left (J11), labelled "Logic level serial port for bluetooth. . .". You should see two of the pins marked as GND and 3.3V. Check to see if you have 3.3V between them.
Take care not to short the pins together!

Hello again I did what you told me and in the 5 v. regulator aux. output I find 4,93 volts. and in the Logic level serial port for bluetooh 3,29 volts, however in the Aux 3,3 output near the bluetooth there is 0 volts I dont know if that is right or if something is wrong. Thanks for your help.

Re: My tgy 9x is dead (Display Screen has stopped working)

Post by bob195558 »

Hi saijem,
Several years ago I lost my display screen too.
João helped me to troubleshoot where the problem was
and I had to replace several small resistors, if I remember correctly.
What I think I may had done was to have accidentally bump some of the resistors
with the solder gun damaging them when doing the 5 volt regulator upgrade.
Though the resistors looked perfectly good they had become damaged.
I am not sure where that old post is, I will try to look for it.

Re: My tgy 9x is dead OK ! (Display Screen has stopped working)

Post by bob195558 »

Hi saijem,
OK !
Found where the old info is and may be a help for you.
You will need to follow several pages (postings) to understand the whole
process to its conclusion.
(viewtopic.php?f=95&t=3819&start=30#p70712)

Hope this may be a help.

Add Edit: I may have missed what 9x radio you have.
Because your title says "tgy 9x" causes me to think you are referring to a stock 9x tgy radio.
But I just re-read your first post again and see you have a Sky9x radio.
So the info that I directed you to may not be of any help, sorry.

So, as I understand it, the radio was working OK, then you tried to update it and now it isn't working?

Do you have SAM-BA installed on your computer?

Hello Mikeb indeed, the radio worked fine but I wanted to access the sd card to copy voices since these did not work as before and on the screen said USB but I could not access the card, I do not remember well because I suddenly noticed the display and no longer said USB so I decided to disconnect the USB and turn it off, when I turned it on again nothing came out on the screen only illuminated and nothing else. After this I began to read and saw that there was the possibility of erasing the system by making a bridge between two pins so I decided to do it but I do not get anything. Actually I have samba on my pc and also I bought a new programmer in case that was the problem.

If you have use the ERASE pin, then you won't see anything on the display. You need to plug the USB in and power the radio on.
You should then get a device appearing on the computer.
You will then need to use SAM-BA to flash the radio.

Re: My tgy 9x is dead (un-bricking Sky9x radio)

Post by bob195558 »

Hi saijem,
I had a stock 9x tgy radio that became bricked several years ago.
I was not able to understand how to un-brick it. :?
So I also purchased the Sky9x board for that radio.
This was one of the best things I did when I starting in the great hobby.:D
One day turning on my Sky9x radio, it some how became bricked.
:ugeek: The process of un-bricking it may be out of date (Oct 17, 2013),
but here is where I was helped to un-brick my Sky9x radio:
(viewtopic.php?f=94&t=4428&hilit=SAM+BA+ ... ky9x+radio).

I think the "Sent File Name" is not right maybe.
It has been several years sense I have used Sam-ba so difficult for me to see where the trouble is.
Go here: (viewtopic.php?f=94&t=4428&hilit=SAM+BA+ ... dio#p62439)
SAM-BA CoProcessor Utility procedure:

Recheck that you have followed all the steps.
And click on the photo's to zoom in and make your setting like they are.

You need ersky9xs_rom.bin (note the 's'). The SKY board processor only has 256K of flash while the AR9X and 9XR-PRO radios have 512K. This means the standard ersly9x program doesn't fit so you need the "small" (hence the 's') version. To make it small, I've removed several languages and some debug options.

After flashing, don't forget to execute "Boot from flash" script.

Hi again, this afternoon I managed to resuscitate my radio. I downloaded the version of samba 2.11 which I read was good and reinstall usb drivers and has given me a very great satisfaction. I want to thank both MikeB and Bob 195558, without your help I could not have done it. Thank you very much again and a very warm greeting from Malaga.
