X9D Firmware

Hi, is it possible to flash the above from international firmware to eu firmware and what problems I'm likely encounter please

Yes that's possible. Put the EU firmware in the FIRMWARE folder on your SD card and then long press the menu button. Then you enter the radio menu. Click page button untill you reach sd-card menu. Browse to your firmware folder, to the correct firmware and select update internal.

You then also need to flash your old non-eu receivers to eu software version of course.

I changed multiple X9D's to EU firmware without problem.

Your receivers must match the RF module of your X9D, EU or Rest Of World (ROW). But the firmware in OpenTx does not care whether it is Eu or ROW. The RF module does not change with OpenTx firmware changes. My understanding is using ROW OpenTx firmware allows you to use D8 receivers. EU firmware may not. Being in the US I have no experience to verify my understanding.
It would be best to see if Kilrah or MikeB would jump in with a more knowledgeable answer.

In EU OpenTx firmware jou can choose to keep D8 available
