I have M9's in my 9x with an AR9x.
I might have to go back to the stock 9x board, which is 5v.

Would there be any point in replacing the hall effect sensors with 5v hall effect sensors (so I can use it with the stock 9x board)? I don't see why not as long as vout is 0-5v and the magnetic field sensitivity is about the same as the M9's sensor.

Kinda hard to ID chinese chips, sometimes. ORCF won't let me attach file from my laptop or my phone... I get an HTTP error
I pulled the two virtical axis chip's. One says

704
49
9

and the other

627
002
2

I had seen a the conversion of pot's to hall effect sensors here

If I can't get replace my AR9x board, then I will probably degrade my 9x to stock, buy a QX7, sell the M9's, and pickup some M7's for the QX7 ....

Sorry, can't help much with the sensors as I didn't follow that market. I guess it may be difficult to find a suitable sensor operating at 5v. But I can be wrong.

Why do you want to downgrade back to the stock mainboard? In my opinion, AR9x is so much better!

You cannot also just use 5V hall sensors directly on the Ar9x board. You have then 2 problems:
1 - You have to find a stable 5V source, which you might already have on the board. Just have to make sure that nothing else but the processor is powered by that source. I believe this also checks, because the Ar9x has two 5V regulators.

2 - You cannot use the 5V output from the gimbals directly on the processor's analog inputs. They expect 3.3V only, so you will need some sort of voltage divider.

This would be my approach to this problem..

I did convert some original 9x gimbals to hall sensors. I used some Allegro A1302 ( I think) sensors. They work at 5V. No idea if they are compatible with the frsky ones, probably not.

Hi interestingfellow,
I believe the M9 and M7 Gimbals use 3.3 volts which works with the AR9X board.
If you have a bad AR9X board, it would be best to purchase another one, then to go backward to er9x and trying to find 5V sensors.
Some more info here: (viewtopic.php?f=122&t=9964&p=130339#p130339).

yeah, if you have an Ar9x board which should be plug and play with the M9 gimbals, why do you want to go back to the original 9x board and replace the gimbals's sensors? It doesn't make any sense :o

Thanks for the replies. I'm not trying to be curt, merely brief; my apologies if come across rude.

AR9x is awesome, for sure. It's all the mods that you all have worked so hard to sort out for years, in a drop in package for $30! I can't even imagine having to do all the troubleshooting that has been done to get the same features that AR9x provides.

I don't *want* to downgrade, but I might have to. I can't trust this specific AR9x board without a clear diagnosis of it's issue and solution. I contacted JK and he's looking to see if a replacement is available. If it is not, then I will need to reuse the stock main board.

I understand that AR9x uses 3.3v; I do not want to switch to 5v hall sensor for use with AR9x.

If I am not using an AR9x board (or similar), then the M9 gimbals are kind of useless for my 9x without modification.
I have ordered a Q X7 that should be here tomorrow. I do not want to cut the chasis of the X7 to accommodate the M9's. If I can't use the M9's in my 9x, I'll sell them, buy M7's, upgrade the X7 and downgrade the 9x. Worst case scenario, my 9x will have stock X7 BB gimbals instead of M9's.

I appreciate all of you!

The issue you're having with the Ar9x, is it the one being discussed at RC Groups with the intermittent blank LCD??

Aye, that's the one. I've scoured over it with a magnifying glass and can't find any shorts/cold joints. And it happens quite randomly. I suspect now that temperature change is involved as it happens sooner than later when going from inside the house (AC) to outside (hot and humid) or when the radio is left on for a 20+minutes inside the house.
But not consistently. I used the radio outside on a hot day for 1-1/2 hours the other day buddyboxing with no issues.

New M9-R (quad Racing) Gimbal
FrSky Hall Sensor Gimbal for Racing Pilots – M9-R (viewtopic.php?f=95&t=10431&p=130898&hil ... +R#p130898).

Not sure because other web places (like Banggood.com) are listing the voltage range to be "Supply Voltage (VCC): DC 3.0 ~ ±0.5V" (max 3.5V)
and the FrSky web page is listing "Supply Voltage (VCC): DC 3.0 ~ ±5V" (max 8V).

Not sure which one is correct, but would guess ±0.5V would be the correct data.

The M-9 and M-7 FrSky Hall Sensor Gimbals are listed "Supply Voltage (VCC): DC 3.0 ~ ±0.5V" (max 3.5V).

Hi Chadbondoc21,
You may want to upgrade your th9x with the AR9x board (http://www.ar9x.net/)
and used erSky9x firmware (http://www.er9x.com/), as the AR9x upgrade board supplies the needed 3.3v to the Gimbals.

Update this Sept 26, 2017 (*** AR9x board is not available anymore)

Bob, the Ar9x board is not available anymore, and I don't know if it will ever be again. My guess is that it won't unfortunately. :(
There is no point in suggesting people to buy it anymore..

There is a chance that the ArUni board will be on the market again, but don't know when. Also it is not a direct replacement for the stock 9x board. It can be adapted though.

Sorry, I did misread your post.. :(

The Ar9x and Sky9x boards are no longer available..
Your best bet might be the ArUni board if it becomes available again. But then, it is not a direct replacement of the 9x mainboard.

And no, that board on my link do not supply 3.3V for the gimbals, only 5V. it is a normal 9x mainboard

There is a Hobby King sale on 9x too: (http://p6trc.emv2.com/HM?b=Lwx7rbTzGt2s ... deJ7wGblbQ).
Maybe better to look at the 9XR-Pro: (https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-9xr ... odule.html), though the case is small for upgrading to M9 Gimbals, but I think it has been done.

Hi Andrew,
After reading this thread I have purchased the M9 gimbals and I am getting ready to install. There is one thing I would like to do differently though. Instead of installing plug sockets on the trim boards, I would rather use the existing wires and solder them to the new gimbals but I don't know which wires are +, gnd, and signal. Can you tell me which wire goes to each lead on the gimbal, I think that will be easier for me.

Thanks for your help to me and the group.

Normally on the 9x radio the black wire is positive, red is ground and white is signal, but We have seen radios that come with a different color order. So the best is to measure to be sure.
The way I would do it, I would disconnect the battery, set the multimeter to read resistance, or even better "continuity", and measure between the wires and ground. you should find out which one is ground. Then between the other wires and the 3.3V rail. You should find out which one is the positive. The last one will be the signal. To double check, you could connect the battery, and very carefully not to short anything, measure the voltage between the wires you found to be positive and ground. Make sure the polarity is really correct. From there you should be good to connect your gimbals.. Just take your time. It usually takes much longer to repair a mistake due to rushing things than the time you would need to do the job slowly :)

Hi feihu47,
The Turnigy 9x radios have random wire colors, you can not trust the Turnigy 9x wire colors.
You will need to use your multimeter to find what each wire is before cutting them into
and is a good idea to label each wire too.
The 9x radio wire colors mean only they are different wires, not what they are.

The M9 Gimbals are wired the same way as the Taranis Gimbals
and I believe the Red wires are the + 3.3 volt,
Brown wire is the Ground wire,
and the Orange wire is the Signal wire.

Here is some more info: (viewtopic.php?f=95&t=9977&start=30#p128295).

Note: wiring the M9 Gimbals incorrectly can damage your new M9 Gimbals.
Also the Turnigy 9x radios outputs + 5 volts to its Gimbals which is to high for the M9 Gimbals which need +3.3v.
So you will need to do a mod to lower the 5 volts down to 3.3 volts.

Added note: If you have the 9Xtreme board, you already have the 3.3 volts for your M9 Gimbals.
