XJT external with LBT firmware-flashing problem

Post by midelic » Wed May 25, 2016 11:50 pm

Hi,

I have an XJT module made in January 2016 with LBT firmware installed on an 9X-pro.
I tried to re-flash with international firmware but I'm stuck.I have ersky9x 219-B
I used the tutorial below with ersky9x but the screen is stuck on
Flashing – Finding Device”.
http://thrustworx.com/frsky-xjt-firmwar ... gy-9xr-pro.

Any idea why I cannot re-flash it,or it the modules STM32 chip is locked?
There is anybody who re-flashed modules bought originally with LBT firmware to share experience?

LBT modules from this period are locked in anticipation of the regulation coming in effect in a few days requiring they are.

What is the alternative? Change the chip? ;) :) or is there other, apart from buying the stuff in Europe?
A friend of mine had his Taranis locked at the customs for 3 months because they were saying it wasn't legal. He had to prove it was because it was bought before the new rules came into effect. That means they are aware of this subject..

I wonder how it will be with modules? I believe we will see many DIY frsky modules and receivers in Europe in the future :) :D

This is bad news.On the site I bought it is said the firmware is upgradable,
I checked every site including Frsky original ,It is never specified that XJT with LBT cannot be upgraded.

It can be upgraded, but with a new version of the LBT fw only. Those are the rules and the fact we live in the wonderful EU.
But Midelic, what problem do you find with LBT firmware on xjt? I have it, xjt flashed with latest lbt, and it works with series x, d, and your DIY rx (f802 :) ) without problems... only set the mode in the protocol setting on the radio. So if you anticipate or know about some lbt problems, let me know, interested...

I tried to flash with 9XPRO in maintenance mode but this time XJT_LBT firmware(XJT_LBT_build161214) ,but still stuck on “Flashing – Finding Device”.
Any idea why is not working?

Ok I manege to detect it but still not flashing the firmware
It is stuck now on "Flashing" with the flashing rectangle box empty and 2 numbers down 7856 3412.
But the box show no progress is stuck.
Idk what is the meaning of these 2 numbers.

I believe it is supposed to be a version number, but I have only ever seen those values. It is returned by the module.
I'm not sure why it is then stuck.
Are you keeping the module powered off until you get to the "finding device" stage?

Yes Tx off and when in finding device mode I power on the TX.
but stay in flashing afterwards not advancing anything.Very strange, I cannot flash my LBT module with LBT firmware.
I don'T have a Taranis to try with not sure this problem is confined to ersky9X or open tx too, with LBT modules.

I believe only one batch of modules from early 2016 were locked, and were not flashable at all (i.e. you couldn't even reflash an EU-LBT firmware)

Whoa!
Mine is from 25 Jan 2016.
So locked completely cannot do anything?I thought locked for international firmware not the same LBT.What was in the head of those guys?
As Mike said before there is a new version of LBT different from previous version and I want to try it.

There was (and maybe still is) a requirement in the EU regulations that you should not be able to change the firmware of radio devices so that they no longer complied. This is why the modules were locked. I don't know why they are no longer locked.

This is BS
They posted updates on LBT firmware, why they locked the module ?Ok lock for other firmware I accept that but not for updates on the same.
The main problem is that this " INFO" with complete locking, is not public, Otherwise I would not buy it in the first place.
On the UK site were I bough it from ,they said it was upgradable.
60 USD spent only for D8.

Check with the UK place you bought it from. I understood that if it is a FrSky main dealer, then they could carry out updates. It may be that they are able to do an update that also unlocks it.

What firmware version do you want to install? As far as I understand, if your XJT is made early in 2016 (that's when locked modules arrived on the market), you should already have the latest version 151223 installed.

There is a newer firmware available, but it's for the newer modules produced starting with December 2016.

So the only reason to update is if you want to go from EU/LBT to a non-EU version... But then again, I don't see a real reason to make this move. The EU version 151223 supports all the protocols non-EU does.
