That means that some of my 9x radios could get a magnetic gimbal upgrade soon :D
I have installed magnets and hall sensors on one of my er9x radios, and the centering is better than any of my radios with taranis gimbals. And that was using the crappy 9x gimbal's mechanics, without bearings and a lot of play.. :)

Thats why its getting better. Now at least the taranis will get an excellent upgrade and everybody will stop complaining about how crappy are the actual gimbals. Let see about the price.

The actual Taranis Gimbals are not crappy at all :o They are as far as I'm concerned the best part of the radio. Centering might be at least as good as some more expensive units on the market using the same type of gimbals (with pots). The difference is, the other commercial radios do not show the user how good/bad the gimbals are. You can't complain about something you can't see :)
Hall sensors and magnets should be more accurate and have a better feel. One of the reasons is that they do not have so many mechanical parts causing drag.
There might be some other negative aspects depending on the quality of the magnets and sensors used. One of them is temperature. You might have to recallibrate the sticks a bit more often depending on the quality of the parts. But I think this is also very unlikely. I have just turned ON my 9x radio with hall sensors and cheap magnets and the error is within 0.1. I did see 0.3 once. That is nothing.. I haven't calibrated the sticks for a while now. Few months I think..
On this radio, due to the poor quality of the 9x gimbals (lots of play) I had to set the springs quite tight in order to achieve these results.. But still, not bad.. :)

Well, unless they are defective there is absolutely no reason to complain.. They even took care of that weakness where wires could break, by putting some tape on top of the connection between wires and pots. That was the only problem I saw with the gimbals. Some people had the wires breaking. But this was only on the first batch I think.. I still put a dab of hot glue as extra safety.

Yes they are, but we are talking about the Taranis Gimbals, not the 9XR-PRO, That's another story.
The beta testers of the 9XR-PRO (I was one of them) suggested Hobbyking at the time to use better gimbals on the radio. Well, as we all know they didn't follow the suggestion unfortunately. That radio could have been so much better. :(
Their loss :)

I already emailed them several times, asking for them to make magnetic/hall sensor gimbals, but no reply. They really dont care, just a new set of gimbals and this radio would be so much better.

They should fit, but do not know of anyone who has received and installed them yet.
Also with the TH9x, it has a 5V Gimbal circuit which is to high for the 3.3V M9 Hall Effect circuit,
see here: (http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic ... 83#p123441).
MikeB wrote:Note that the SKY board, AR9X board, 9Xtreme and 9XR-PRO are all 3.3V based and only supply 3.3V to the gimbal pots.

More info here: (http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic ... 126&t=9674) and (http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic ... 122&t=9683) and (http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=9977).

Also make sure when installing M9 Hall effect Gimbals, that you know which wires are which, as you could have Magic Smoke (A BIG PROBLEM).
MikeB wrote:Take care to check the supply and ground connections.
The pots on the existing gimbals are OK if you get the power and ground swapped,
but I suspect the hall effect devices would get damaged if that happens.
(And don't rely on the existing wire colors, they seem to be a bit "random").
