Voice on 9xtreme

Post by boowho »

Are there any DETAILED instructions/tutorials around on programming voice alarms; I seem to be doing something wrong.

My 9xtreme plays the welcome message, throttle warnings, inactivity, etc. But I can't seem to make my "own" voices work.

I have ONLY DL'ed the voice packs and put them on the SD card in the /voice directory. Within that directory are user and system.

I want to start a timer when throttle is advanced. Then every 60 seconds, I want the TX to announce "1 minute", "two minutes', etc.

Can this be done? I have tried the examples in the manual, but can't get the radio to say a word.

Do I nee to move voice file around to other directories, like 'Model Name" or some such??

Thanks

Voice Pack for Ersky9x: create a folder on your SD card and name it "voice" then add the Voice Pack files to it.
Voice Pack found here: (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7715).

Backup your voice pack you currently have on the card and rename the voice folder to something else. Then follow the link to download the voice pack for ersky9x.

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7715

After that, just unzip the downloaded zip file it to the root directory of the card. The voice folder with all the folders inside will be created. Files you make yourself go inside the "user" folder. The file names should have a maximum of 8 characters plus the file extension.

Go to the timer menu and turn ON the options "Minute Beep" and " Beep Countdown"..

Under all my posts you will find a link for some videos I have made about ersky9x. Some explain how to program voice.
Those videos are a bit old, and at the time I've made them, ersky9x still didn't support file names. Only file numbers. If you keep that in mind, all the rest is pretty much the same. :)
I am working on a video manual. need to go back to it ;)

An interesting problem. I can now get example 1 in the manual to work.

I select the voice file ThrCut_0 and I get "Throttle enabled" when I set THR switch on and Throttle disabled when I return THR to off.

Perfect.

But If I try to use a different voice Like 1Gear_up (just for practice/learning) then it announces Gear UP when I set THR switch to on, but NOTHING when THR switch returned to OFF.

The voice file is the ONLY thing I've changed. NO other setting in radio changed.

Help.

Click on the Photo to view better and try the first 2 throttle settings:

You may need to use different voice files as you may not have the same voice files that I have.

I assume you have the trigger set to "BOTH". With this setting, and the filename set to "ThrCut_0", then "ThrCut_0" is played when the switch is turned ON, and "ThrCut_1" is played when the switch is turned OFF.
For this to work, the last character of the filename needs to be a digit.
If you are using the filename "1Gear_up", then the last character is NOT a digit. Do you have some files like "GEARUD0" and "GEARUD1"?

That is a mistake on the voice pack.. Just rename the files as Mike suggested and they will work..
I will have to post an updated version of the pack with that fixed..

Thanks Mike (and everyone else) The last digit is the key, I believe. I knew the files had to consecutive, but I thought it was consecutive by their place in the FAT table, or maybe alphabetically. A final numeric digit did not occur to me, but is probably the safest/best way to do it.

Would changing "1Gear_up" to "Gear_up0" AND 2Gear_up to "Gear_up1" accomplish the same thing?

BTW, I will be sending a donation (via Paypal) within the next few days.

Hi guys,

(This seems the most appropriate thread I can find)...

I've just completed my first 9xtreme upgrade with the Smartieparts board having used er9x for several years. I've downloaded and installed the latest erSky9x9xt_rom.bin dated 9 Jan 2016 for 9xtreme and the latest voice folders (system, user, modelNames) and files.

I've watched João's 3 videos and applying a "user" file to a switch seems to work fine, but I'm stuck with adding voice to the countdown timer whereby minute beep is announced as well as final seconds countdown etc. Is this supposed to be setup in the model timer 1 & 2 options or in the voice 'switches' with timer1 as input? neither seem to work for me.

I presume the voice files for countdown are accessed from the "system" folder which are not accessible when choosing a voice file name so how does this work?

Many thanks for the tireless efforts of the few that make this possible for us all. I've searched the forums for some insight but struggling to find an answer.

Cheers

Minute beep is set in the model timer options.

It is worth flashing with "ersky9xProvR219v_music.zip", found here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4676.

Thanks Mike,

I'll give this a go. For some reason i can't seem to be able to get simple alarms like the radio inactive alarm to work - must have changed a setting somewhere inadvertently.

Any chance that amending models in Eepesky on a mac could be bringing in an issue?

For the inactivity alarm, try setting it by going to Radio Setup /Alarms.

Hi João,

Yes I've tried these ad nauseum without much joy - will reflash and give it another go.

On this note when I connect to the pc the Tx says "Connecting..." and this doesn't change but i seem to be able to read/write anyway.

While I have you do you have a sample eepe file that has the voice countdown timer you demonstrate at the end of your videos?

Positive response and a happy customer yet again :) (and with a 9xtreme that now sounds the part)

Thanks guys reflashing with ersky9xProvR219v_music.zip means that the timer countdown does its thing automatically - no need for programming a voice switch - OH and that inactivity siren seriously calls you to attention, not to mention the neighbourhood dogs all being woken at once :)

Cheers and thanks again...

Knowing a little can be dangerous - but I'll continue to follow one step at a time in your footprints, if that's ok...

The inactivity alarm has a specific volume setting, so if it is too loud you may reduce it. It uses this setting regardless of the normal volume setting.

Greg, great that you found the cause of the problem :)
The countdown at the end of my videos is done by the timer, not by a sample file :)

By the way, with the file you flashed to the radio, you also have a music player. That's why the file is called "ersky9xProvR219v_music"

Here is how it works:

Background Music feature on ersky9x.

On the root of the SD card, create a directory called "Music".
In this directory you place individual music files. The maximum length of the filenames is 14 characters, not including the ".wav".
The format of the files should be:
16-bit .wav, sample rate 16kHz, Mono.
(A sample rate of 32kHz is supported, but you may get occasional breaks in the output).

In the "Music" directory, you may also put sub-directories, again a maximum length of 14 characters, but this includes any extension they may have. These are "Play Lists" or “Albums”. In these directories you may put up to 16 .wav files. If you put more than 16 files, only the first 16 will be used.

You access the music from a menu. This is UP LONG from the main screen, then RIGHT three times.
This looks like:

Music 4/12
Type List
File PlayList
Loop OFF
Start
Prev < Pause > Next

Underneath this, the current file being played is displayed, along with a "Progress Bar" that shows how far through the file you are.

The Type may be "List", for a PlayList or "Name" for a single file.
The File is either the name of the file or the PlayList. Press MENU to choose what you want.
Loop may be either OFF or ON. If OFF, the file or playlist is just played once, if ON, then the file or PlayList repeats.
"Start" starts playing the selection. While playing this changes to "Stop" to stop the music.
The next line only appears while playing. You may Pause the music by selecting Pause. While paused, this option changes to "Resume".
"Prev<" and ">NEXT" only appear while a playlist is playing. Use LEFT and RIGHT to skip backwards or forwards through the PlayList.

When a PlayList is selected, going RIGHT from this menu (to 5/12) gives you a list of the files in that PlayList.

On the "Model Setup" menus there is a new sub-menu "Music".
Here you may assign switches to the functions "Start/Stop", "Pause/Resume", "Previous" and "Next". These enable you to control the music playing without going to the Music menu.

Have fun ;)

And I thought flying a plane was challenging>>>

I need to stick to the basics like remembering to tell eePeSky that I'm using 9xtreme in the default settings so that when i re-upload a model it doesn't scramble everything.

Playing music for my mates at the field.. now that will have all those Spectrum die-hards wishing they had an 'el-cheapo' turnigy 9x (which by the way, my next venture is to figure out adding a dx6i tx module without destroying my 9xtreme in the process .. any tips welcomed)

Thanks Mike,

I have an FrSky DJT unit still in its box and have gathered up a few old spectrum radios to raid the tx module (dx6i) and the 3,3v regulator (dx5) and bought the other components to do the internal mod for dsm2 for now that I found out about in the 'new' er9x manual. I presume this will still work with the 9xtreme board installed??

Will certainly add this all-in-one tx module to the xmas wish list

Cheers
Greg
