ERSKYTx (was ersky9x) Questions

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

Mike, like this? Is it correct?
Also could that diode be permanently connected?

Thanks

NOT like that (referred to a picture now removed to avoid confusion), the diode goes from the TX1 pin to the S.PRT pin, nothing to do with the RX1 INV connection.

I think it would be OK to have the diode in there permanently unless you need to sometimes use the RX1 INV option.

But on the board TX1 is marked as S.Prt. :? :? :o
Or does the diode go from the TX1 pin to the RX1_Nor pin?.. Is that it? I will correct the picture if that is the case..

I can see where this can be confusing.. :o
Thanks

ERSKY9x Questions

Post by Daedalus66 »

The two pins are separate. That's how the labeling works for the pins below. To be clear, there should be a vertical line between S.PRT and TX1 but there isn't room.

There is a TX1 pin on the right and S.PRT on the left within that box. The diode goes between them. Isn't that it?

By contrast, the RX1.NOR and RX1.INV are pairs of pins to be jumpered or not. I think.

Nigel, you are absolutely right.. I didn't see that.. I thought both labels belonged to only one pin :o
It is confusing.. Picture removed to prevent people from connecting things wrong.

Just hunted this down: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=2914&start=30#p84911.
The .pdf has details of how I flashed a SPort device from a SKY board. I have the COM1 on mine wired to both pin 2 (Tx) and pin 5 (Rx) of the module bay (for use with a modified DJT module).
I then just used a diode externally to provide the correct connections.

I just checked with a diode, and it didn't work. I even have an explanation for that:
As I understand, the S.Port operates inverted signals compared to the TTL used in the radio. That's why we have the 'RX1 inverted' jumper on AR9x. This inverts the signal received from the S.Port. In order to be able to SEND data to S.Port, I think the TX line should also be INVERTED.

I need to build an inversion circuit to test my idea... Will try to do it later tonight.

You are most likely correct. The SKY board has inverters on both Tx and Rx of COM1, which is what I originally used to test this.

Ooops... I was NOT correct. Looks like I just used a bad diode... Initially I took something from my box of used components, I though it was good enough. It didn't work for me, so I went an inversion circuit route. To my surprise, the inversion circuit didn't help either! Then I rechecked everything from the beginning, and I discovered the diode I tried the very first time was not passing the current in any direction... :(

So I used another diode and I was able to reflash an XJT right away!

Therefore, I can confirm all that is needed is just a diode to be put like this:

Image

Tested and working fine!

P.S. In my opinion, the easiest way to add a diode and keep it removable (in case someone will ever need to remove it) is to make something like this:

Image

This works for me just fine!

No problem. There have been a small number of reports of a 9Xtreme not shutting down. If that happens, then those numbers might tell me why not. As long as your radio shuts down correctly, just ignore them.

Mike
Just spotted a slight discrepancy in voice alarms
When ,play on no telemetry , is muted the voice alarm is also muted
This can be confusing as I didn't expect any connection between these choices

Yes, if you have a telemetry item set in the source field, and that item is considered as "not being received", then yes, the voice alarm is muted. If the source field is not a telemetry item, then the mute is not actioned.

Hi Mike

I understand your comment but I find that without any type of entry in the source field, ie blank and with the 'Play On No Telemetry' set to mute, the voice file does not play.

So I can only play the voice fie if 'Play On No Telemetry' is set to On

Hope that makes sense

On my radio it is working as it should. If I have a working receiver sending telemetry to the radio, set a voice event to play a voice file followed by the RSSI value for example, and have it NOT muted, the radio will say "No telemetry" after the voice file is played when I disconnect the rx and flick the switch.. If I mute it, and there is no telemetry received, nothing will be played.. This is the correct behavior as far as I know..

What did you set in "Play Source"?

Hi Joao

I had entered 'After' in play source with no entry in the Source

This is my mistake - I should have entered 'No' in play source

With these entries the Mute option in the 'On No Telemetry' works as expected, ie it does not mute the simple voice file

Thanks to you and Mike for the help in clarifying this procedure

I will let you get back to more important things!

There is a test in the voice alarm processing that checks the mute, and also checks the source is a telemetry value.
Then it checks for the value being valid before setting it to be muted.
The check for being a telemetry value was wrong, so when the source had no entry, it was incorrectly being detected as needing to be muted.

Re: ERSKY9x Questions

Post by lancaster »

Hi Guys
I seem to have found another discrepancy in Ersky9XT

I have been switching models and setting up lots of voice files

In one particular model, I have two switches that play voice files that I dont want and are not set up in the voice file list

These are:-

1. Pot P2 is set for motor on/off but also incorrectly plays gear up/down
2. THR switch is set for data logon/off but also incorrectly plays throttle enabled/disabled

I have checked that there are no stray voice requests sitting in the file list and cant get rid of these unwanted voice messages

Any suggestions?

Check the safety switches menu.. at the end there are some voice switches still remaining from many versions ago. Make sure you don't have any programming there..

Hi Joao
Thanks for the quick reply
You were right first time!

I didnt think of looking at the end of the safety switches list - I havent used these for some time

I found several switches I wasnt expecting - that explains all the weird voices

Many thanks for solving my problem

Did you fix your 9XT bootloader issue yet ?

Good you got it sorted ;)

The bootloader still fails sometimes but at least the radio doesn't frezze anymore. But now this radio has an even bigger problem that I need to solve. The 12 way connector is going bad and started to fail. 6 years of constant modding was a bit too much for it I suppose. I don't even close my radios with the screws anymore. Both halves are held together with tape cos I know I will need to open them for some testing again. Ordered some 12 way connectors. Let's hope that this radio will be back into service before the end of the summer. Summer didn't even started here :) :)

Yes its the same here - I'm down to two loose screws only

I guess replacing the 12 way connector is a serious bit of work?

Give yourself two clear days to replace it ?

Or I could use two 6 pin connectors that I bought for the bluetooth mod. The problem is that the wires on these are a bit thinner and harder than the original on the 12 way connectors. I bet that the new 12 way connector wires will be too thin as well. But it might actually be Ok. I have all the mods I need on my 9xtreme radio so I don't think I will be opening it many more times.. :)
