Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ? (SOLVED)
Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ? (SOLVED)
Hi everyone.
I have bought a Usbasp from Hobbyking (the latest one with 6 pins cable HERE ) and flashed my Turnigy 9XR m128 using eepe. It takes 320 seconds to read and then another 320 seconds to write the ER9X firmware. Also flashed the OpenTX with companion, same thing. Is this normal because it looks way to slow for me. I'm using Windows 7 x64, but I have tried it also on Windows XP 32 bit. I have seen videos on youtube, flashing a 9xr takes only 30 seconds. I have downloaded and installed the drivers as described in this pdf:
Pdf file with instructions and download link
What could be the problem
Thank you in advance
MiRi
EDIT: All you have to do is to remove the jumper, jumper on is for slow programming, jumper off is for normal programming (fast in my case )
Happy flying
MiRi

Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
Have you got any -B 100 or similar in your AvrDude command lines?

Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
While not fixing the slow programming speed, since you have a m128 processor, you might be better flashing er9x-128.hex.
All looks OK, it may just be the USBASP is clocking slowly. You might try adding a -B 2 as an extra option to see if that speeds it up.
I'm using a STK500 programmer and that flashes 69K into a m128 is 13 seconds!

I have already installed er9x-128.hex. I will try the -B 2 option, but before I do that I would like to ask you again. I have read somewhere that chinese programmers now use automatic clock ajustement. Using -B 2 in this case, would it cause any trouble to the 9XR or the usbasp.

I don't think so, I think it would just be ignored.

Ok I will try and let you know the result
Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
I tried adding -B2 and also -B 2 but the same result
when connecting Usbasp to the 9XR, the voltage shown on the screen is 4.4v, is this ok?

Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
Yes, the voltage is OK. The voltage from the programmer has to go through the regulator "backwards" to get to the measuring resistors, so drops a bit on the way.
I suspect the USBASP is just doing something slowly.

Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
I have two "identical" 9XR's ... One flashes like lightning, the other is a turtle. I've tried seeing if it made a difference in order ... nope. Different USBASP's ... same results. Same profile ... still fast and slow.
I can't find an explanation, just know that I have to wait longer for one of them. Such is life.

Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
So you are saying it is the radio, not the Usbasp?
Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
It's most likely the usbasp, but it's not impossible for it to be the radio.

I guess i have to live with it . Thank you for your replies
Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
i noticed the file is on a 'G' drive. is it by chance a usb drive ? maybe try it with the file on the 'c' drive.
also
be sure all your switches are in the off position. it may make a difference.
It is also weird that a 'hobbyking' usbasp does not give the ' can not set sck' warning. their older stock used firmware that would generate that warning

Re: Turnigy 9XR flashing too slow ?
Hi rperkins
"G" drive is not a USB drive. All the switches were off during flashing, I have thought of that too, and you are right about SCK, it sais that it is set to 375 000 Hz.
