Legacy DSM module install in a 9XR

Post by Rob Thomson »

I have decided to keep my 9XR just for DSM/BNF models.

As HK have been slow to get the integrated Antenna module out the door, I decided to refactoring my existing orange rx module to do the job.

Nothing fancy here. Just a hole in the module case, fed through the case and into the transmitter. I simply moved the existing internal Antenna out the way, and installed my own in the same place.

The hole in the back of the orange rx case was then filled with some epoxy.

Job done.

I don't intend to swap modules on this radio, so a simple and easy install works well.

There really is not much to show!

Just an antenna on the inside of the case, and plugged in to the socket inside the module!

To do the in all you just want one of these:

That becomes your new internal Antenna.

Simply make a hole in the module, open the case, and push the wire through!

Did someone already attempt or succeeded to interface with this internal antenna plug?
Looks like a damn convenient innovation on HK's side. But so far can only be used with original radio or hacked.

It's really impractical to connect to unless you have the module case that's been designed for it...

And little correction, there still is no single module that makes use of it. HK never released one yet.

On option would be to add the internal Frsky DHT DIY module and connect it to the internal 9xr antenna(solder to it).
Then the module bay could be used for other modules, UHF ect.
Or, wait and buy the new Frsky tx that will from all reports, make the 9xr look like a door stop. IMHO.
