i opened the case checked the connections, checked the screen connection ribbon, checked for burnt marks, checked for loose wires. i have one more test to run and see if the radio is still working but just no screen with no sounds.....brb....
ok so i check another thing out, looked at the back of the radio at my "FRSKY" module and it isnt even blinking like it normally does when i turn the Tx on so in other words there is no protocol or anything on the Tx for the module it is in my own words like a new hard drive with no operating system just blank if that makes any sense.....screen doesnt even flicker or anything

I found this, but the electrical schematic for the 9xr main-board is not clear enough to help: (http://flyingforfun.weebly.com/turnigy-9xr.html).

More here: (viewtopic.php?t=3837).

I have been holding off from suggesting, that you look at the 9XR-Pro radio (its a lot more radio then the 9xr),
(or at more cost, but is a lot more radio, the Taranis-Plus which you could flash erSky9x firmware to it, I use erSky9x on my Taranis).

But with some research and troubleshooting, we maybe be able to get this 9xr working!

First of all.. I know perfectly that your radio isn't working. Doesn't beep, doesn't turn ON, nada..

Second, the reason I ask all those questions is just for trying to understand what is happening.. Remember that you have your radio in front of you, I don't.. You saw what happened, and you know what you did when it happened, I don't. I can only rely on the information you give to me.

Third, I asked you to open your radio and measure the voltage on the regulators.
You tell me the voltage of the battery, and the voltage of the USBASP programmer. That wasn't what I asked.

And 4th, With all my questions I'm trying to understand if your radio has an hardware failure, or if you've bricked it somehow.. That is why I have been also looking at the eeprom you flashed to the radio.
The reason I have explained again the procedure to flash an eeprom, is that I'm trying to understand if in the process you did something that might have bricked your radio.

Now, before you had the problem that the radio didn't connect to the PC.
The outputs from Avrdude were saying exactly the same as they are now. The difference now is that the radio doesn't turn ON.
Then you suddenly say that by installing the driver you downloaded from Hobbyking fixed the problem, which I found hard to believe because the output from eepe were telling me that the PC was talking to the USBASP programmer, but not to the radio.. So, the drivers were OK.

Your radio started working, and I was surprised because I still don't think that the drivers were the problem anyway.
What I think is that the old problem came back..
Something else that I think but cannot say for sure because I don't have the hardware with me, is that your USBASP is causing all sorts of problems and you should try to get a different one that is known to work..

trust me, Bob that option is so hot on the table right now! since i have the FRSKY module and 3 Rx's i was going to try and stay with the 9XR-pro line if you know what i mean? i am going to wait about another week or so before i pull the trigger! wouldnt want to go buying another Tx and find out the fix was real simple!

Joao,
dont get me wrong i am not upset with you i am upset with the situation.
if you think the hardware is the issue then send me a link to one that you know and trust works because there are 50 million folks selling these devices out there, this way i get the one you know that works and we can see whats up from there. maybe thats it maybe it not but its worth the shot before spending the money on a new Tx, dont you think? and i know you are trying to help, i am just frustrated that just when i think i am moving forward i get stopped dead in my tracks! BTW i checked voltage coming thru usbasp and i get the same voltage i was seeing on my radio display screen when it was working properly.

I suggest you to follow João now,
as my best maybe adding some resources that may be needed at some time, if and when more troubleshooting is needed.
I was thinking the same thing as João, to get a new USBASP as they do not cost much and may be the root of the problem.
Add Edit: If in the process of flashing is interrupted (bad USBASP or it's connection broken), it may have Bricked your radio.

Ok, check all connectors are well seated.
Then measure the voltage on U5 which is the 5V voltage regulator.
On the picture above it is the part to the left of the processor and has the part number

KIA
78D05F

the tab is connected to the middle leg which is ground. measure the voltage between each of the legs and the tab. be careful not to short anything.
One of the legs should measure battery voltage, and the other should measure 5 volts

Joao,
ok this is what i got when i read voltage on "5V regulator"
before testing the regulator i checked voltage on battery pack that read "11.25v"
when i tested the 5v regulator, center "tab" being the negative lead and "outside" tab left and right being the positive leads
i got 4.9v on one lead and 10.25 on another, off by about 1v from battery pack but i am no electrician guru....would this difference mean anything?

Re: SOMETHING WENT WRONG!!!!!

That is normal, that voltage drop seems to be caused by a protection diode according to the schematic Bob posted earlier..
The 4.9V at the regulator's output is also normal. The blue "Ready" light is on because it connects just after the power switch. It is not connected to the processor.
Will have another look at the schematic. We need to find out if the processor is being powered.. I am starting to think that the problem is not the hardware might have been caused by bad writing to the chip, or something similar.. The programmer you've been using has the SCK problem and it might need a firmware update.. That means it can't slow down the programming speed.
Did you try a read with the AIL and THR switches turned ON (towards the front of the radio)? Could you please try that again and post the eepe output??
I have no idea what might be causing this :(
There was a member of this forum that sold some good usbasp programmers before. They worked well.. But not many people still use the old Atmega chips anymore.. We all upgraded our 9x radios with other more powerful boards. There are no upgrades for the 9XR other than buying a new radio unfortunately. :(

AvrDude/eepe is really not seeing your radio.. :(
This is the same error we have seen at the beginning. I know that now the radio doesn't work and before did ;)
Are you sure you didn't use the -F option? This is important as it could have bricked your radio..

Never touched the F option. To tell you the truth I don't even know where to start with the "F" option...as in where to input it, if I was going to use it. ..lol

I'm at loss with this problem at the moment.. I thing the programmer from hobbyking might work fine as I don't remember reading about many problems with it..
The problem is not the programmer working with the m128 chip. It is that some have some bad or old firmware installed, and need a firmware update. The "Not able to set SCK period" error that your has is one of those problems..
In my case, I don't normally use an USBASP even if I have a couple.. I prefer a much better "mysmartUSB Light" programmer.. More expensive but way better.
I had situations though where only the USBASP worked. But very rare.

so i guess i am just going to wait til i get the new usbasp and try those out before i do any attempt on updating the firmware which i still dont know if it is required on this device....scratching my head...lol

I'm using USBASPs with the "can not set SCK ..." message since years without any problem with at least two different 9x radios.
To me your error message really means, that there is a problem with the wirering between your USBASP and the processor on the main board.
Have you carefully checked (measured), that all of the connections are ok?
Typically the USBASP has a resistor array (4 resistors in one pack) in some output lines (towards the radio) that some times has a to high value.
What is printed on that pack? it should be 101

It is strange that it was working, and now it doesn't..
Checking the value of the resistors is also a good idea. I had forgotten about that one. It's been a long time since I flashed my er9x radio as there hasn't been many updates for it :)

Pics of the resistors and the version of USBASB I got, but like I said I have ordered 2 different ones from different locations waiting on them to arrive. What's a few bucks versus a new radio, huh?....

Hmm, I can't see well, but it looks it has 1K resistors on the programming lines?? Whoever built that might have been drunk :o :)

I would like to be sure that those 1K resistors connect to the programming pins. If so, you could probably bypass them

Your USPASP looks different to mine.
MINIPROG.JPG
The resistor array (R8) connects the processor with the Mosi/Rst/SCK/Miso pins of the Plug to the right.
Check at your USBASP which of the resistors, if at all, (possibly R4-R7 ?) connect to the plug.

These resistors, if greater than 100 Ohm (101) are known to sometimes make problem when trying to flash the radio.
