Making Throttle hold the priority on helicopter

Post by tintin »

Hello all
I've successfully programmed my taranis to take control of my Raptor X50 after a long time trying. It had been on a JR PCM 9x

I've programmed 3 flight modes ( normal, idle up 1 and 2) on a 3 positions switch.

I've got the throttle to cut on selection of switch SF.

At the moment it only cuts the throttle if selected to any of the 3 flight modes. ( the flight modes take priority)

What I would like is for SF to cut the throttle and also revert to a bespoke pitch curve ( irrespective of what flight mode it is in. This is how the JR radio is set up.
ie if you have an engine cut in flight you select the throttle hold (switch SF) and are in a autorotation pitch curve, to make an emergency landing

Any ideas

Tintin

I would set up a fourth flight mode with curves that fit your needs and activate it with SF.

Ok I've tried that
The problem is that SF will not over ride the flight mode it just cuts the throttle

I'll have another look at it tonight

You have to use flight mode 1 for throttle cut and flight mode 2 to 4 for your other modes
'cause if 2 flight modes are selected, the flightmode with the lowest number ist active afaik.
So don't add your throttle cut mode to the end of the list...

Klaus
Thank you
I have sort of worked it out now.

One of the templates on companion 9x has throttle hold for the throttle only. It has a R in front of the input line which is for "replace". I had a quick play around and managed to get pitch to do the same. It could also be because I changed the order of the flight modes.

Wow, I'm still learning with the Taranis but I'm now going to persevere with it. I flew one of my gliders with the mike shellims F3F glider setup (R Soar) and it was very good.

Hello
I've been trying this again using a set up model helicopter as it easier to see what is actually happening.

I've set a pitch curve specifically for the throttle hold pitch but cannot get it to take priority over the flight modes ( no matter what order I put the flight modes in.

I could just live with as on the template and but it's nice to get throttle hold and a bespoke pitch curve whenever you select switch SF

Has anyone got a EEPROM with this on?

Hi Tintin,

what about the other way around?
Post your eepe file here and we can see where your thoughts went the wrong path.
I think the learning effect there is bigger than by using something ready-made.

Hi Tintin,

sorry for answering so late, was busy with other things ...

What you missed is the correct usage of flight modes.
First you must decide which flight modes you want or need and assign switches to them.
As I mentioned some posts ago the lowest activated flight mode is active if two ore more are selected.
So you have to use flight mode 1 for throttle hold.
fm1 (Individuell).png
fm2 (Individuell).png
Then you have to create and assign lines in input and mix screen to the related flight mode
by ticking the appropriate check box (note: a mixer or input line can be assigned to multiple flight modes).

flight modes 2 (Individuell).png (37.92 KiB) Viewed 7798 times
flight modes (Individuell).png
flight modes (Individuell).png (31.78 KiB) Viewed 7798 times
Dual (or as here triple) rate or even expo normally is set in the input screen
while the throttle and pitch curves are set in mixer screen.

The attached file contains in model 16 a modfied version of your model 12.
It uses SA for triple rate, SF for throttle hold and SC for flight modes IdleUp, Stunt_1 and Stunt_2.

Curves for collective pitch are 4 (IdleUp), 5 (Stunt_1), 6 (Stunt_2) and 10 (ThrHold)
Curves for throttle are 1 (IdleUp), 2 (Stunt_1) and 3 (Stunt_2). For ThrHold the throttle is set to -100%.

It assumes Ch1, CH2 and Ch3 are the cyclic channels (for swash plate),
4 is rudder, 5 ist throttle, 6 is gyro and 11 the collective pitch.

This model is not intended to be used directly in a real model but to show how you can set up things.
This is neither the best solution nor the nicest 'cause I'm not familiar with OpenTX (I'm an er(sky)9x user).

This is a rough outline about what I've done to your sketch so:
- If you have any questions feel free to ask...
- If s.o. else has a better solution please tell...

[btw: IdleUp means a throttle curve like -100/-50/0/50/100, throttle from idle up to somewhere
(what here in Germany sometimes is called "Baby Gas" = "infant throttle" ;) ) ]
I do use it only to rev up the motor when soft start of ESC is not working properly.

Klaus,
Thank you very much. Following your advice I got it sorted. Excellent, I'm now fully transferred across from my old JR PCM 9x11 now onto taranis.

Thanks again
