X9D Plus bluetooth

Post by AndreL »

Hi - I have a question for hardware specialists out there - Is there a way to tap telemetry data out of the X9D Plus radios internal rf module and pass it on through a Bluetooth module?, or somewhere else internally as its fed for processing maybe. I am looking for telemetry data like the DJT module provides externally. Or is an external module like DJT the only way for such venture. (Bit of a waste to buy a module just to be able to pass on telemetry data) - Thank you in adv for your knowledge

I have found that with opentx 2. you can get telemetry out of serial port in battery compartment - hence pass on to Bluetooth, but is the data in same format as out of the DJT. I would like to use it with the frsky logger app on my android. Thanx for your help

No it is not, it is the newer smart port format.

hi Kilrah, i found your old post from 2016 that stated that you can extract s.port data from the bottom pin of the module plug-in, if you wish to tap telemetry data. Would this be the same as the digital stream found in the djt?

No, read what I said above. There is no D-type telemetry at all anywhere on the Taranis.

The Taranis' internal module provides smart port data. If you tap the pin you get that. If you configure the serial port to telemetry then you get that as well, it's just copied over.

So yes you can take that data but you need appropriate software to read smart port data, old programs that expected D type can't be used.

So if I were to run a D8R-II plus receiver with a taranis (considering i own 7 of them), which samples all sensors through the hub i would be s-o-l?? on all telemetry values ?. The reason that i am asking because i just purchased the radio but am waiting on delivery. I ran all the telemetry before through the 9xr and frsky logger app. Thank you for your help

You will get the values on the radio itself of course but you can't relay them to FRS Logger since it has never been updated for the smart port protocol (that has been out there for 5 years already).

But it is probably becasue basically everything it offers is already available on the radio itself so there wasn't much point in dealing with bluetooth links, a separate device and an app anymore... Those apps were developed for use before radios could make use of the telemetry data on their own.

Basically whatever you were doing on FRS Logger before you'll now do on the radio directly.

if the radio is getting them then at least that is a bonus - hate to think that frsky would expect owners that purchased a new radio would also have to change receivers in their entire fleets, than again stranger things have happened. I like the off-board app because i placed it on my phone above the radio, where it was easier to read - because i did not have to glance too far down to note a reading thus taking my eyes of the sky. Then again the display on the 9xr was a lot smaller. I am surprised at the fact that through the open firmwares that you guys have built (which is outstanding by any comparison) that this did not come up as a request. Thanks again for taking the time to explain it all.

One of purpose of the voice alerts is exactly to allow us to keep our eyes on the model and not look at the radio..
Even if we just want to know some values, we can always program a switch controlling the voice. The the radio will speak the value. :)

Hi all, I'm looking for the same solution... I want to pass the data from X9d+ to android device reading the data with XCSOAR!!!
There are some solution to pass the data, I think the best one is using the HC-05 or HC-06 bluetooth module (I have done this HW mod and it work!)
the problem is to translate the data in to a protocol for XCSOAR...
XCSOAR is the best software solution for Glider pilot, is a freeware software per Win and Android so perfect allineated to the mood of OpenRC
XCSOAR have some parameters to define the port and the protocol of the data received but it necessary to set the protocol...
some super software man maybe have some idea how to connect XCSOAR to a telemetry (just GPS would be a good start to work with XCSOAR)!!! Thk

Hi,

What about BT-Audio. I hate cable connections from transmitter to pilot so BT-Audio with BT-Headset would be nice.
I could use a regular audio transmitter in the battery compartment but how can I disable the internal speaker without having a signal at the audio-transmitter.

Is the audio signal available in digital format (SPDIF or similar) to avoid unneccesary conversion (D-A-D-A)?

Best regards

Hi,

I just want to push up this thread because I have another question.
Bluetooth seems to be used fot telemetry but is there a possibility to use BT for teacher/student connection?
I have a Jumper T16 where a BT module can be added to be used for this but is the X9D+ also BT capable for trainer/Student?

Best regards

Onki
