Ever since I have had my Taranis Plus (about 6 months now), due to being new to RC I have never really flown beyond 150m, I have noticed however that at this sort of distance I have been seeing fairly low signal strength (RSSI) - down to 40db. On my 680Pro hexa its never really caused any issues (never triggered a radio failsafe in APM), but I have always worried about going further than this and losing signal altogether. I never really thought that I might have an issue until I saw reports recently of people flying quite successfully to several km with this same setup, then today on my F450 clone (running cleanflight on a Sparky controller) I had signal loss at about 30m, which caused the copter to drop out of the sky resulting in 2 snapped arms and 2 totalled props. This quad has the X4R-sb Rx. I did a walk test this afternoon down my street, with the smashed quad sat outside my house as I walked away with the Taranis Plus monitoring the RSSI. At all times there was direct line of sight to the quad, and I got down to critical warning (42db) level at about 150m. Now I know that urban environments don't provide true to life testing (I imagine quite a few wiFi signals knocking around on my street), but the results are making me wonder whether I have a faulty Tx board in my Taranis. Can anyone else share their walk test info?
I have modified my Taranis, replacing the antenna with a FrSky 5dbi module antenna. The SWR sits nicely at 1, so the antenna and connection appears to be OK - so wondering about the Tx board - anyone?
Cheers, Paul

Re: Losing signal strength over short distances
Are you pointing the tip of the antenna at the model?
I guess the 150m wasn't with the transmitter in range test mode??

Re: Losing signal strength over short distances
I tried various antenna orientations to get the best possible signal. I didn't know there was a range test mode! I was just simply looking at the telemetry screen where I had RSSI and SWR displayed. I shot a video if it - apologies, Its a bit boring! https://goo.gl/photos/S4s3yQZ6JU9Fw79n6
