Threaded inserts

Post by tilmanb »

The new Taranis Tray version still has self tapping plastic screws. And of course I ripped the thread ouf of one on the first day.

I would like to put in some threaded metal inserts. Does anyone have good sources to buy those in EU?
Searching for threaded inserts usually gives very bad search results.
Rivet nuts are not quite the same, but I guess I could use those as well.

Any tips?

I think you may need to search for 'threaded stand off'
Slope Soaring, FPV, and pretty much anything 'high tech'
...........if you think it should be in the wiki.. ask me for wiki access, then go add it!

No, that is a different thing.
What I want are little metal bushings with fine thread on the inside and some kind of self cutting thread on the outside.

I can get the smooth threaded inserts in, but I would have to glue them I guess.

Do you think the plastic is riggid enough for the helicoil? I only know this stuff from repairing threads in cast iron. For example at motorbike engines.

Once I put one into a small piece of derlin, but in the end probably it depends on the particular stiffnes of part.

Tilman,

Try here:

http://www.modelfixings.co.uk/threaded_inserts.htm

I don't know if they are small enough though.
