V8R4-II Reciever

Post by duncandan »

I am having trouble binding a V8R4-II receiver to my Taranis. Any suggestions. Radio on D8 and bind flashing, turn on receiver with bind switch down and it just flashes red. Turn off rx and exit out to main page on radio and turn rx back on and I get a solid red. No servo movement.

Make sure you try with Tx and Rx separated by about 2m. It usually works closer but not always.

From the manual:
D_Mode (Telemetry)
Connect Ch1 & Ch2 signal pins of V8R4-II by provided jumper and then
connect battery to V8R4-II directly (no need to hold the F/S button on V8R4-II)
Bye.

No luck with either receiver. Radio is over 2mtrs apart. Even tried the jumper on ch 1 & 2 signal pins.

What protocol have you selected in the radio? PPM?
A steady light means it is bound, right?

The Taranis is in D8 and I have it in bind, [radio beeping] but no go. The destructions say that when it is bound it will flash green.

According to the Rx instructions you need to link channels 1 and 2 outputs, with the supplied jumper, to bind in 'D' mode.

No need to hold the button in on the Rx with channels 1 and 2 linked. I don't have a V8R4-II, but all the other receivers I have flash a RED led when binding is complete. You may have done this, but this is the the sequence to follow:
Set the Tx to PXX, D8 mode and select BIND, Tx is bleeping.
Link channels 1 and 2 outputs on the Rx, make sure it is the servo output signals!
Switch the Rx on, the RED led should flash.
Switch the Rx off, remove the link.
Take the Tx out of BIND mode.
Switch the Rx on and it should show a GREEN led to indicate it is working.

The reference to a GREEN led flashing is for the Tx module, you don't have such a led on the internal XJT of the Taranis.

Thanks MikeB.
I know it's an old thread, but it saved me some grief (after enough grief!)
I wish they (FrSky) would be more consistent - and more clear in the instructions.
I don't know why they use the little button sometimes, and the jumper at other times.
My D4R-II used the button to bind with the Taranis QX7... which has it's own binding mode.
I'm just glad I did it on the bench rather than in an older airplane where the ESC would be
in the circuit. Having just a battery, receiver, and new servos all laid on the table made
it easier to be assured that the problem wasn't somewhere besides the brand new V8R4-II.

@Mark42
Rx's D4R-II and V8R4-II are different devices with different firmware.
V8R4-II more older and provided bind with pressing FS button with own RF (Tx) module like D4R-II.
Short Ch1 & Ch2 - just new feature of binding for new protocol.
