FrSky Taranis buzzing from speaker

Post by BustedWing »

Hello all, Im brand new to the open tx world and just got a Taranis. I've done a bit of research on the buzzing noise which apparently is common in the taranis. Is this an issue that Aloft would take care of? Or will I need to open her up and add some shielding to wiring, and speaker to protect from the rf noise that apparently makes my speaker unhappy...

Thanks a lot for the help in advanced.

It's considered "normal".

Some have found ways to reduce it:

Thanks for the update. My biggest concern was that it may be a problem that will affect its abillity to work, its not really that loud of a sound that its bothersome.

No need to worry.

I still use my 100% stock A version as is, it buzzez a bit but I never bothered doing the mod as it didn't disturb me that much either.

I found that if you angle the antenna away from the casing or have it pointing 90 degrees to the right of the case, the buzzing stops.
The buzzing isn't really that much of a problem whilst flying to be honest

Be mindful of your RSSI when you do that; there are reports that it can drastically shorten the distance to the point where RSSI trips an alarm.

That would really depend on how you fly.

The rf radiates out in a donut shape from the end of the antenna. So weakest signal strength is off the tip, and the base. Strongest out the side.

So... For regular flying - on a flight line with the model out front. 90 degrees to side is optimum. Same for high altitude.

Long range /FPV is different. Optimum would be to angle the antenna straight up. This gives you long range, but low altitude when close by.
Slope Soaring, FPV, and pretty much anything 'high tech'
...........if you think it should be in the wiki.. ask me for wiki access, then go add it!

For FPV I would point it straight down ;)
But that depends on how you hold the radio. I have seen in many videos that people tend to put the tx on their lap when they fly. So, pointing down should be optimal as the side of the antenna is angled slightly upwards.. but as I said, it depends how you hold the brick :) :D
