S8R Receiver will not go into self check mode

Hello, I hope someone can help me. I am unable to get my S8R receiver into self-check mode.
1st I tried assigning using the mixer screen X9d Lite radio to SWA as the source and then cycle through neutral 3 times quickly. Nothing happens.
2nd I powered up the transmiter and receiver and pressed the F/S (bind) button on the receiver and nothing happens there either.
Both times I made sure the throttle was all the way down and all sticks centered.
