Total Newbie

Post by Aotearoa »

Hello out there I am wanting to buy the Taranis 9XD plus SE to eventually use with RC aircraft, RC helicopters and possibly drones. I realize there will be a learning curve to figure out how to program and bind the radio to the aircraft etc.
What else do I need such as receivers to go with the radio and what ones would you recommend?

All this is a totally new endeavor for me so any of your help would be appreciated
Regards
Christopher

Do you mean aranis 9XD plus SE 2019?
If so:
There are two protocols supported by the Taranis 9XD plus SE 2019. So you will want to by either the new Archer series receivers or ones that are ACCST/D16 and the latest models of these. RX4R, RX6R, G-RX8R and G-RX6R are all compatible with the D16 protocol and can be changed to ACCESS if you prefer it. See https://www.frsky-rc.com/frsky-advanced ... l-release/

Unless low latency is of high importance to you (mostly for helicopters and quads,) but some precision aerobatic/3D pilots say they can feel the difference. ACCST/D16 receivers are more available right now, but that is changing in the future...probably. ACCESS is new and has had some teething problems.
But if 24 channels vs 16 or low latency (i.e. faster response to pilot inputs is very important to you) ACCESS is your best bet.
For me ACCST is rock solid and very available now. It is what most people are flying with today I believe. I can't tell the difference between my input getting to the aircraft in 9 ms vs 18 ms. But then I'm lousy pilot!

Here are some reference materials for OpenTX, but ERSKYTX is also an option.
