2 receivers on the same channels on the Taranis

Post by goos »

Hi all,

I fly a class called F5B and in competitions we need 2 receivers, 1 in the plane and 1 on the ground connected to a box that controles the energy and motorrun.
So they read the throttle channel on the "clone" receiver.
I always flew Jeti but now Frsky.
Is it possible to use 2 receivers, 1 in the plane and 1 on the ground that do the same, so channel 1-8?
And how to do it?
I have a G-X8R and a a X4R, the X4 should be the control receiver.

Hope you can help me.

Yes, no problem. Just bind the ground receiver with the 1-8, no telemetry option.

Another option is to use ERSKY9X on Taranis firmware,
which you can use both the internal XJT module and the external module (transmitters)
allowing you to choose which transmitter you want to have telemetry still.
Each transmitter can be bind to a different receiver (or receivers).
Some more info here: (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4582&start=360#p99734).

You can of course do that on OpenTX as well but it makes no sense at all in this case (it would actually allow cheating, the whole point is for the judges to receive the exact same thing as the aircraft...)

I believe Opentx firmware has not updated to be able to choose which transmitter can do the telemetry.
I believe Opentx locks you into the internal module only can do telemetry.

AFAIK that is limited to the old Hub protocol, and again it is irrelevant to the case at hand for which a 2-module solution isn't appropriate at all.

The "clone" receiver doesn't need telemetry.
It just records the moment and time the motor is on.
We don't use the throttle stick but a switch, it is on or off.
We fly legs between 2 poles, motor off.
We use the motor to climb and fly in.
And when you pass the pole with motor on an alarm goes and than you have to turn back to fly in again.
That all is registred by the box at the judges.
The used energy is recorded after the flight with a seperate meter, or from the Unilog.

This weekend i go look if i can bind 2 receivers on 1 transmitter.
Maybe the problem is going to be that the plane is off when the clone receiver is connected and tested an the startbox.
After it is learned in we switch on the plane.
But i will test.
The Frsky Horus is perfect for F5B flying with the big screen and all the possibilities.

That's not a problem, FrSky's system doesn't know or care how many receivers are listening.

Hi goos,
There are several models of Taranis radios and I normally think
of the Taranis-x9d or the Taranis-x9dPlus.
I see you mentioned you have the Horus radio,
which model do you have ? :?:

I believe these are the receivers you have:

G-RX8 receiver (https://www.frsky-rc.com/product/g-rx8/)
This receiver is designed to be used for the Gliders. FrSky built the variometer sensor into the RX8R receiver, this will give you telemetry data like altitude and vertical speed. The G-RX8 supports the redundancy function as well, this means you can add on another receiver to create a back-up in case one fails. In addition, it supports SBUS and PWM mode, you can switch between the 2 channels between very easily.

X4R receiver (https://www.frsky-rc.com/product/x4r/)
Features 4 PWM outputs (normal servo) and now includes an option for CPPM output for feeding to flight controllers or other uses. CPPM carries 8 channels on a single servo wire. SmartPort and a traditional A2 port are all located on the side of the receiver and allow you to connect all sorts of great sensors to send data back to your FrSky radio.

You may find in the manual for the X8R receiver, some info on how to use two receivers with one XJT module.

Yes Bob, i have those receivers and now I have a X9D but a Horus X10 will be on the way as soon I tested this issue with 2 receivers and it works.

It works,

First bind 1 receiver, turn that off, than bind the other.
Turned all off.
Restart transmitter, turn on 1 transmitter, turn on the other and both servos work.
Great!
