D8R II plus in PPM mode
Hi all,
Is it possible to use the FrSky receiver D8R II plus to output PPM mode? or CPPM mode?
If yes, can you please tell me the procedure to achieve this?
Procedure for Programming (firmware flashing) + bind procedure + jumpers.
And after that, what channel the PPM output goes?
Thanks

Re: D8R II plus in PPM mode
You need to flash the D8R-XP firmware, then look at its manual for jumper and plug positions.

Re: D8R II plus in PPM mode
Thanks Kilrah,
So if I understand well, I need to download the D8R-XP firmware and follow the flash procedure like if I had a D8R-XP receiver?
Even if I have the D8R II plus?
Everything found on the Fr-sky site..?

Same hardware (D8R II and D8R-XP), different firmware and a different sticker on the housing.

Re: D8R II plus in PPM mode
Good to know.
Thanks Kalle123.
However to flash the D8R II I will need the FrSky USB to RS-232 adapter. I don't have it.
So I wonder if I should simply order a small receiver like the XRM that has SBUS instead of D8R II in PPM mode.
I have the STK stick for smart ports, too bad I can't use it to flash the D8R II.

If what you want to control supports sbus then yes. Faster as well.
Some of the new receivers also have PPM outputs if needed.

Re: D8R II plus in PPM mode
It is to control a FC for a drone.
All my receivers with sbus are taken on my airplanes so I was wondering if I could use an old D8R II in PPM instead to avoid PWM.
Which one is the fastest? I know SBUS is faster than PPM.
SBUS (sbus port)
PPM (channel 1)
PWM but with many servo wires.

SBUS is fastest. PPM and PWM are the same, unless you can switch the receiver to fast PWM in which case it would be inbetween SBUS and PPM.
Re: D8R II plus in PPM mode
Ray, flashing the D8R II without having the FrSky adapter at hand is not impossible.
Two ways
With an FTDI adapter https://oscarliang.com/flash-frsky-rx-firmware/
or
if your computer still has an COM port https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthr ... h-COM-Port

Re: D8R II plus in PPM mode
That is very interesting, especially the method with the Taranis.
RS-232 on PC's is very rare now.
Thank you very much Kalle123

I know, my PC still has one. But Ray, those also work and don't cost much.

Good to have one in the box, just in case.

Re: D8R II plus in PPM mode
Thanks again Kalle123,
These are so not expensive that it's worth it to buy them even if they won't serve now.
Always practical to have them and easy to use.
