Well done! :)

Regarding the throw. I tested several gimbals (FlySky / Turnigy, FrSky PR10 and the M9). It appears that the stock FlySky gimbals have the largest throw (just a little bit over FrSky PR10), while FrSky M9 has the shortest. But I don't feel that to be an issue, at least my fingers had no complaints so far! :)
Thanks andrewju. I flew with the new gimbals this morning. My 450L DFC heli that is well tried and tested actually feels even tighter now! Whether that is something real, or just a 'feeling' I don't care! Lovely job!

What with the ARM M4 main processor mod onboard (It really was the best £40 odd I have spent in a long time!!) and ERSKY9X it just keeps getting better and better!
Just need to get on with getting a couple of spare Tarains 'sliders' cobbled on, and I think that will be it! heh heh!
The simpleton asked "Hows about ErSky9X for Horus???". And the Genius from Dorset replied "Why not indeed? I shall get right onto it!" And then there was light on Horus! And it was good!

I spent the evening fitting the new M9 gimbals.
Went about it ever so slightly different than andrewju did, in that I was not wishing to chop away any of the alloy plates on the gimbals.
All I did was unsolder the 8-wire blocks from the trimmer PCB's and resolder them on the other side. Very much as what andrewju did with the actual gimbal wire sockets. They fit 'almost' perfectly (the alloy thread bosses on the new gimbals would need grinding down approx 1.5mm to let the shiny bevel edge of the M9's to fit fully in the front case holes), without any cutting/grinding which then negates any risk of fine grindings getting in the works!

Also, the angular throw on the M9's is near as damn-it the same as on the original FlySky versions. I did not even have to recalibrate the new sticks, as the throws were no different.

Certainly a super upgrade. The sticks 'feel' every bit as good as the ones in my Horus! And all for under £35 the pair delivered!
I need more like 2.5mm on mine, decided to grind plastic inside the case instead

I also got a couple of M9 gimbals for my 9Xtreme (after 9 weeks of waiting for HorusRC to have stock again).

Thanks for the posts andrewju!! This will make the mod go so much easier! Knowing where to look for and what I can expect.

When I got them in I will report if aything when different.

Yes, please share your experience, especially how 9Xtreme will work with the new gimbals. There were questions asked in the past, but I couldn't comment as I don't have a 9Xtreme to test.

Thanks! :)

I got my M9's in.

It went super easy because of your post Andrewju!!

I cut off less meterial of the alu plate:
Image

I soldered my gimbals instead of using connectors.. :) But my 9x has (like some other people) wrong colloured wires! Like Andrewju posted: the middle pin is ground but has a red wire! Before I soldered anything I double checked this with my multimeter:
Image

Image

This is how my 9Xtreme now looks... ;)
Image

After the install I calibrated the gimbals.
BUT I have a problem: on each of the gimbals, one axis goes the wrong way (as shown in the picture below)...
The throttle and the ailerons goes the wrong way.
I cannot turn the M9's arround because then the other axis will be the wrong way.
Did you have the same 'problem' Andrewju???

By the way: all trims do go the right way.

M9 Gimbals Stick Direction Fix in 9x radio when using erSky9x firmware

Post by bob195558 » Fri May 12, 2017 9:38 pm

This is how to get to the Radio Hardware Setup Menu.
1st Hold Left Trim (horizontal) to the Left while Powering up Radio.
2nd Go to "Radio Setup" / "Hardware" / "Stick Reverse,"
you can make your stick direction changes here.

Also see here: (viewtopic.php?p=125299#p125299).

It may be easier to do it using eepSkye on your PC, then flash the changes back to back to Radio, I believe.
(eepSkye / model radio's eeprom / General Settings / General Edit / Setup / Stick Reverse)

Video help: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX30WhY ... 7s&index=9) and (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... qcuIqJXhb9).
And Yes, there are wrong wire colors, meaning you can not trust Turnigy 9x radio wire colors, you have to use your multimeter to find what they are and label them before making your Taranis Gimbal wire connections.
More 9Xtreme INFO here: (viewtopic.php?f=95&t=7182).

Nope, this is not correct. You don't change this in model settings.
You need to open your radio's eeprom in eepskye, go to radio setup ( not model), then hardware tab. There you can reverse the sticks.
But it should be easier and quicker to just do it on the radio.

Subject: eepSkye Stick Reverse
Hi João,
Sorry for my error  , I keep thinking to call the "eeprom", model, because eeprom is where all the models setting are kept.
I have not updated my eepSkye for some time now and I am in the middle of build a "Hobby Room" plus the seasons are
changing from winter to spring and summer, just been busy with everything.
The eepSkye version I have been using is Revision: 421, July 31,2016.
In this eepSkye version the Stick Reverse is in the Setup tab.
Was this moved to the Hardware tab ? :?:
Stick Reverse Setup eepSkye 2016.jpg
In old version of eepSkye the Stick Reverse is in Setup tab.

You got a point there :) I will check mine as I believe I have the latest test version.
But if it is not in the hardware tab, then in my opinion it should be in there. :)

Stick reverse setting is in the Setup tab of the Radio Setup in eepskye.
But on the radio itself it's in the Hardware menu.

P.S. Added a few words about stick reverse to the third post!

Ah ok, I stand corrected then :)
But I think it should be moved ( together with any other hardware related setting) to the hardware tab, so it matches the radio..

When Mike has time, maybe changing eepSkye "General Settings " and "General Edit" to "Radio Setup".
And moving "Stick Reverse" to the "Hardware" tab.

I love the feel of the M9's and the precision! Nice mod... :P

P.S. I reversed the sticks on the radio (not via eepskye)

Hi all,

I just installed these nice gimbals in my 9x with AR9x board flashed with OpenTx 2.1.9.
The problem is I can't find a way to reverse LV & RH sticks.
Is there a solution?

Thank you for your help.

Look for some sort of hardware menu in the general settings. The stick reverse might be there somewhere..

I just looked and don't see an obvious menu entry in radio setup to switch gimbal direction, but I'm also using an older build ("radio setup" -hold left at home screen to enter)

I do have some M9's sitting here waiting to go into my 9x with an AR9x board, RTC, and 2 iphone 5s haptic motors, though.

I'm uncertain of the correct hookup procedure. The header on my M9's plugs directly into a header on the AR9x board. I'm assuming this is the way it's supposed to go, and the two 3 pin headers on the gimbal wires are for trim buttons? Am I concerned with rewiring the trimmer connection or the M9 hall sensor connection? Can I use the existing M9 header and solder the 3 wires directly to the trimmer buttons? or not?

thanks!

First of all, what firmware is installed on the ar9x board? Ersky9x or OpenTX?

Please read this thread from the beginning, it explains very well how to install the M9 gimbals on a 9x radio.
No, the M9 DOES NOT plug directly into any plug on the Ar9x board.

The M9 gimbal is originally designed for the Taranis radio, those trim connectors are not used on the 9x.. Again, please read this thread starting at post number 1.
If you don't connect the gimbals correctly, you can damage them..

That was for Anthony's question concerning OpenTx switching gimbal direction, I thought I quoted him, but I didn't. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, I did read the thread from the beginning, several times; I know better than to ask without trying to figure it out, first. You're guy's time is too valuable to waste on easy questions. BUT I was confused because I wasn't paying attention when I looked and saw that the M9 gimbal header plugged right into the AR9x board. I just now looked again and realized that's not for the gimbal :(

I think I "get it" now that I've looked a bit closer at the AR9x.

Thanks, again!

Hi carlkelly176 interestingfellow,
I do not have the AR9x board.
But I think, you can use the same 9x Gimbal wires and just connect them to the M9 Gimbal wires.
You do need to use a Multimeter to make sure you know which wire is which (Ground / 3.3 volts / Signal) when making the connections.
Note: the color of the 9x wires can be anything, so do not believe in the wire colors on your 9x.
If you need help checking which wire is which, let us know and we can help guide you through the process.
See Pictures here: (viewtopic.php?f=95&t=9977&start=30#p128292).

What is tha MW-3M connector?

I'm sorry for asking, but I'm having a hard time knowing what to look for to find the receptacles for the 3 pin connector on the m9's. Searching digikey or mcfarland is really hard when you don't *know* what you're looking for.

Ah, sorry about that! Looks like only my local shops call this connector an 'MW-3M'. Other shops call them differently, and there doesn't seem to be a common name. Here is a link to the one at DigiKey: https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/ ... -ND/926612
Note that they do have several items like that - probably made by different manufacturers. I believe this one should be Ok.Though, others that look the same (like this or this one) will likely fit as well. Aside from the look, the important parameters to check are the pitch (0.079" or 2.00mm) and the number of pins, of course (3).

Are the 9x and the 9xr pro has the same size? Because I got the M9 few days ago and it wont fit inside the 9xr pro. The M9 are larger then the pr10, you can see in the pic that it cant get inside The trimmer pcb's are in the way and I didn't even use the metal plate

I didn't feel like risking frying my m9 gimbals, so I soldered my connectors like this! Pay attention to make sure you "mirror the connectors from the right and left gimbal pcb's, make sure it will clear the m9 mounting plate, and on one gimbal's side you will have to trim a filet from the inside lower back of the receptacle to clear the solder of the other connector (as pictured); on the other gimbal, you won't have to. Make sure all 4 connectors have the same pinout (+ Gnd Sig).
