Turnigy 9XR Pro Roll Problem...

Post by markjanderson »

Hi, I'm guessing that this is probably related to the potentiometer issues that I've seen talked about, but I thought I would see what you guys thought.
I recently started getting twitching behavior on my quadcopter where it would just all of a sudden go full right (or sometimes just twitch right)

Figured out that the sometimes the roll channel will register full right even when the stick is in the center position and I can see this on the LCD on the transmitter.

Here's a link to a video of the behavior too. Any chance this is software (I'm running ersky9x v2.18)? I'm really thinking hardware though.

It's a bummer, because it's basically a brand new transmitter. Probably have to open a support case with HobbyKing and see if they will at least send me a new gimbal to try. Maybe have to think about going down the Taranis gimbal replacement plan too if that doesn't work.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Can't confirm for you 100% that it is your hardware, but I did have a very similar problem on the throttle channel on a brand new 9XR Pro. I had to post the whole thing back to Hobby King who just replaced the whole Tx. I subsequently purchased 4 spare gimbals with the next 9XR Pro I bought as they were the same price as the return postage I'd paid for the original return.

It could be a wire to the pot that is breaking and may be held making contact internally just by the insulation, or it may be the pot itself.
If the ground conection is disconnecting, then the pot will register as full right.
Have a look at the "DiagAna" screen and look at the 4-digit number beside A3. When the pot is in the centre it should be around 0400. As you move the stick left and right it should change to around 0120 and 06E0. If it suddenly jumps to 07FF, this indicates a loss of the ground connection to the pot.

Apparently the taranis sticks after installed seem to hit the face plate when at the corners.. That is why I still didn't upgrade my 9XR-PRO's gimbals..
I might try messing with magnets and hall sensors like i did to one of my 9x radios.. It works very well..

Thanks for all the replies guys. Mike, I'll take a look at the diagnostic screens and the wires and see if anything looks odd. In the meantime, HobbyKing has at least put a replacement gimbal in the mail so if I can't find the problem with the existing one I'll at least be able to give a new one a try.

On my PRO the issue come from a poor rivettted leg on the carbon track, could not fix it; it is neccessary to find a replacement pot.
I had the idea to take the track of one of the aux. pots. wich give a good way to fix the issue.

No, the tracks are different.

Did you already try to apply conductive paint to the carbon track and leg??
