9xr Pro not power on problem.

Post by bigde »

9xr Pro won't turn on when power up (new lipo)using Open Tx 2.1.8. When I install DSM2 module in. The power pin bend in RF deck and it short I suppose. I've check the fuse on the RF deck and its fine. No replacement board....need help.

Measure R9 on the RF deck.

What is the R9 on the RF is it a resistor and what I'm mesuring voltage or ohm. That radio is brand new, had it in a box for a couple of months and decided to use it and this happen. So far I've check the two fuses One is a glass fuse and the other one I think its a fuse on the board. I've check them both with ohms tester and it's ok. Do you have a picture of the R9.
Thanks for your reply.

R9 is a current sensor that in case of a short can act like a fuse and get destroyed. It has a resistance of 0.1 ohm and that is what you should measure.
I think it is marked on the board but I will try to find a picture later. I'm not at the PC now.

Here is a picture of the 9XR-PRO RF Deck board.. R9 is marked with a red circle. It should measure 0.1 ohm. your multimeter will see it as a short.. Please measure it and then report back. Ahh, REMOVE/DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO DO THIS..

Is this a resistor type and were do I find this, need the name and number if possible so I ca search for it. At what you set your ohm meter at....200 2K, 20K, 200K, 2M, 20M because I'm getting different numbers. Again thanks for your help.

Set it at 200, the lower scale. That resistor is basically a short.
What values are you getting?
If that part is the problem, normally the fix is to solder a little piece of wire across it. You will lose current monitoring on the radio of course. For me that wouldn't be a problem.
In my opinion is a waste of a good analog input, and they are normally rare

At 200 (not 200k) I get nothing. Can I put a different resistor. ...I got some for a arduino project. ..

if you don't get any readings using the 200 ohm scale on your multimeter, then I believe R9 is damaged. Just solder a little piece of wire across it..

I tried with resistor and It doesn't work but It works with a tab of soldering and it turn on Now...Thanks a lot.... What do you mean current monitorint will drop. do you mean that the voltage on radio will be off.

The 9XR-PRO includes a circuit to measure the current being used by the transmitter, R9 is the resistor used for measuring this.
With R9 shorted out, then the current measurement will be wrong (probably 0).
There will be no other effect on the operation of the transmitter.

Hello guys, probably you could help with my case as well. I accidentally shorted PPM1 pins (antenna/ground/bat+), so 9xr pro won't turn on now. Voltage at bat+ pin is around 2.50v; R9 is ok, C1 and C4 broken (my fault, now not sure what the values are to replace). What else should be checked, any ideas? Thanks a lot for help.

FU1 is a fuse, check this is still OK.
C1 and C4 are both 0.1uF (100nF).

What voltage do you have on FU1 and R9?

Thanks Mike
Good news that ended up with desoldering R9. Although the readings on R9 itself were as fine as 0 Ohm, the traces were disconnected. Fixed.
Sorry for hesitating :|

R9 is 0.1 ohm and is the Tx current measuring resistor.

Yep, of course, it was my ohmmeter which is not sensitive enough.
However, the problems are still there. It doesn't want to turn on again. C79 is fried, probably the current from power source went too high. Could you please share its value as well? And looks like C79 also has (uh, had...) a resistor connected in parallel?

C79, on the main board, is just a 0.1uF de-coupling capacitor on the 3.3V power line. I'm not sure what the resistor is, I haven't located C79 on my board yet!

The resistor is 47 Ohm, parallelled with capacitor. Fixed that couple as well. Hopefully this will keep the device alive for a while... Thanks
PS attached the photo with c79 circled, for future reference. I'm not sure why it is coupled with a resistor, but it is.

I can't find a 47 ohm resistor anywhere on the circuit, which resistor number is it?

Following this thread, I have same experience -- My C79 is fried as well and R9 reads 0.1.

Pardon me kirsch I just have to ask this question to MikeB/Joao what happens when you plugged in the module (Orange RX and XJT) while the TX is on? That is the the last thing I did before this happend and made my tx to not work properly (READY LED only no display on the LCD)

You may get short circuits between the module pins and whatever damage that can cause.

With the battery plugged in, test what voltage you see on both sides of FU1 and both sdes of R9. You should see the battery voltage in all cases.

Pardon my ignorance but how do you measure "on both sides"?

Measure voltage betwen one side and ground and then between the other side and ground.

Hi guys! I have a spare 9x board, which you think I can get some components there and transfer to the burn components on my 9xr pro? Specifically the C79 as shown above, this is the only component burnt on mine upon inspection.

The board will work fine with out C79

C79 is a simple "bypass" capacitor, that sits across the 3.3V power lines.

How have you determined it is faulty?
