Please confirm that when you did the mod you re-routed the two switches from pins 2 and 3, making sure you disconnected them from pins 2 and 3 either by cutting tracks or removing the surface mount resistors.
You might test with the THR and AIL switches moved to their other position(s).

If you can find one of the smartieparts boards for telemetry an XJT just needs a wire soldered to the #5 pin on the back board which is the big bare metal spot and that's literally it. I made a want ad for a 9xtreme and found one. I have a smartieboard and telemetrez board I replaced with the 9xtreme still if you can't figure it out and just want to install those. Running the 9x with a 9xtreme and a XJT and have full blown telemetry with the only mod being that single wire solder.
