Output power for different modules

Post by barjunk »

I was wondering if anyone has information regarding the amount of output power for each of the different modules that folks are sticking into the 9x, 9XR, Taranis and other radios.

From what I have been able to find so far is:

4xe, 5xe - 100mW
6xi - 200mW

Even those numbers are just gleaned from reading stuff on the web...nothing direct from the manufacturer.

Anyone have comments about other modules as well as these?

Max legal power in the 2.4GHz band for that type of equipment is 100mW in most of the world, so that's what most modules are at.

USA allows a bit more, and Spektrum being American they use it for USA versions of their gear. I don't think any other manufacturer makes separate versions.

Adding a 5-7db antenna or higher gain antennas over the stock 2-3 db antenna and amps to these certified modules usually violates all local RF laws.
Sad as it is, all legal non licensed operation of RC aircraft, was designed for line of sight only.
Anything to boost that makes the operator a criminal in the eyes of the local laws no matter how it's justified.
I fear that eventually our hobby will see unsuspecting pilots with large fines or worse, jail time.
The USA this week just banned all UAV/FPV or "camera drones" as the news called it, from national parks.
They confiscated the offending "drone" and are searching for the owner. It only took one to get them banned! No ID on it. I'm sure that alone will trigger new ID laws that will require all RC flyers to obey or get fined?
Once the news gets wind of this stuff it's not good, and now they have a national park ban to feed on.

So now both the FAA and national parks are against our operation. Great job in such a short time by some.

I've decided not to jump into this part of the hobby time or $ wise until all the facts and rules are out there. Too much trouble comes with it I fear.
So for now my legal 60-200 legal power Kilrah's posted is ok.
I think Frsky's certified for 60-100 mw for their modules and the Taranis.
It this is too off topic please read it and then move it to another topic, but please read it. I fear for our hobbies future.

Thanks to the idiots that think they are pilots and go fly in the same airspace where real aircraft and real pilots fly, like international airports approach airspace. Thanks to the ones that go fly over highly populated areas like Manhattan, and some of those can't even fly the model and crash it into the buildings nearly killing who walks on the streets. Thanks also to those idiots that go filming the neighbors when they are sunbathing in their gardens. Thanks to all those idiots the ban already started. Won't be long until the normal hobbist suffer it too..

Latest was a "drone" caught over a serious brush fire.
More bad press!

*Off topic* - Yes it will not be long before a major incident happens with regards to FPV... It will take some massive fines or jail time to stem such activities and even then, there will remain the lawless irresponsible element that seems to have come with this type of stuff. The evidence is out there on YouTube.

No real comment from this end, other than to ask what the OP is asking or looking for in this respect?

I'm not sure why anyone would post something like that on youtube...oh well.

In terms of power output, I think this is resolved.

Thanks for the participation.

Ignorance.. They think they did a great and funny thing.. But these are the videos the authorities are going to watch. Then, no FPV and no model flying too.. :(
